Exchange Online, OWA and OAUTH
Hey GUys,
I am trying to make sure i understand a document here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/client-access-rules/client-access-rules#authentication-types-and-protocols-in-client-access-rules
In that document it says that OWA does not support OAUTH? Authentication? How could that be? Isn't modern authentication, a form of OAUTH ?
Thanks,
Robert
Are you saying Web App/API?
- Supported here refers to the context of Client Access Rules, not in general. Incidentally. Client Access Rules themselves are no longer supported, so you should avoid using them.
- Robert BollingerBrass ContributorVasil, Ahh I see what you mean. Thanks for the clarification.

Robert Bollinger Hey, did you know that Outlook for Office 365 can use OAuth1? That's pretty cool, right? It means you can connect to other apps and services without sharing your password. But there's a catch: Outlook on the Web (OWA) doesn't work with OAuth2. That's a bummer, because OAuth2 is the latest and greatest version of the protocol. It's also called modern authentication, and it has some nice features like multi-factor authentication and conditional access.
So, if you want to use OAuth2 with Outlook, you'll have to use the desktop app or the mobile app.
Sorry, web lovers!
