Ignast I've got exactly the same question. I'm about to switch my team to using metadata it seems like a waste with the current level of SharePoint & Outlook integration.
I'm also not interested in purchasing a third-party solution.
Can anyone from Microsoft say is this is planned to be fixed. Metadata is such a huge part of document storage on SharePoint. It seems crazy you can't search from outlook using metadata.
