My Azure login is stuck at MFA and cannot proceed

In August, I was still able to log in to Azure, and by logging in through GitHub I could bypass 2FA. But now, no matter how I try, logging in via GitHub always requires 2FA. I can’t access my Azure account anymore—nothing works.

The system prompts me to use Microsoft Authenticator to confirm a two-digit code in real time. My Microsoft Authenticator on my iPhone is logged into the same Microsoft account, but I’m not receiving any verification requests for Azure login. No matter how much I refresh, nothing shows up. I’ve already updated the Microsoft Authenticator app to the latest version from the App Store.

However, my personal Microsoft account works fine and can log in without any issues.

    1. Check Your MFA Registration

    Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

    • Confirm that Microsoft Authenticator is listed as a sign-in method
    • If it’s missing or outdated, re-register it from this page
    1. Force a Fresh Authenticator Sync
    • Open the Authenticator app
    • Tap your account → Remove it
    • Re-add the account using the QR code from the security info page above
    • Make sure notifications and background refresh are enabled on your iPhone
    1. Try Alternate MFA Methods

If you added a backup method (e.g., SMS or email), you can:

    • Click “Sign in another way” during login
    • Choose the alternate method to bypass the broken Authenticator prompt
    1. Clear Browser Cache and Use a Clean Session

Sometimes cached tokens interfere with MFA handoff:

    • Use a private/incognito window
    • Clear cookies and site data
    • Try logging in from a different browser or device
    1. Contact Your Azure Tenant Admin

If this is a work or school account, your Azure AD tenant admin may have:

    • Enforced stricter MFA policies
    • Disabled fallback methods
    • Blocked Authenticator registration from unmanaged devices

You’ll need their help to reset your MFA registration or temporarily disable enforcement.
