Microsoft Teams and Authenticator lockdown
I’m having a very frustrating issue with Microsoft Teams. I am able to log in to teams using my normal personal email and account ONLY ON THE WEB BROWSER. From the web browser, I am not able to access the business channel that I am in. When attempting to log in on the downloaded mobile Teams App, I am sent directly to Microsoft Authenticator, which after waiting several hours, waiting even a full day, is still displaying a message about repeated verification attempt and to wait and try again later. I have accessed Microsoft support chat and they had no help for me. I need the authenticator lockdown to refresh and it will not.

Hi Austin,
According to your scenario, there are Two separate problems here.
Can't see the business channel
That's guest access, not MFA. The team sits in someone else's tenant, so you have to switch organisations in Teams to get into it. Click your profile pic top right in the browser and look for their org in the list. If it's not there, nothing you do to Authenticator will help.
Ask their admin to check you're an active guest in their directory and that you've been properly added to the team — guest access doesn't work until you're in at least one team. They can run the guest access diagnostic in the M365 admin center to check it. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/guest-accesshttps://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/set-up-guests
Authenticator lockout
It's a rate limit. Microsoft blocks repeated attempts in a short window, and every retry restarts the timer — that's why a day hasn't cleared it. Leave it alone for a few hours first. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/authentication/concept-authentication-phone-options
Then re-register, in this order:
- On a computer, go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Add sign-in method → Microsoft Authenticator → Add. Leave the QR code up.
- Now uninstall the app on your phone, reinstall it, add work or school account, scan the QR.
- Test it, then delete the old Authenticator entry from Security info.
- Remove the account from Teams mobile, then sign back in.
One thing to check first
That security-info page is for work or school accounts. If you're on a personal Microsoft account, your settings are at account.microsoft.com instead. Make sure the account on that page is the same one you use for Teams — easy to fix the wrong one and wonder why nothing changed.
