Remove MSP Admin Access to Tenant

Hi All,

I am taking over IT responsibilites for a mid-size company.  Currently, we are dealing with a roque MSP who has admin credentials for everything including our M365 tenant. No internal employees of the company, including owner, have been provided admin rights.

I should add that this MSP is a one-man shop, I seriously doubt he has any formal partner relationship with Microsoft, but I may be wrong about that.

My feeling is that he has not registered the tenant the correct way and ownership shows his name rather than the company, but I can't prove that.

due to conflicts, there is an eminent possibility that he will begin deleting accounts, removing licenses or otherwise interrupting business.

Is anyone aware of a method for contacting Microsoft to deal with these sorts of disputes?  without an admin account, I don't even have the option to raise a support case with them right now.

We may be in a tough situation given that we pay him directly for services, so the invoice and payments will probably be in his name.

any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

you "should" be able to open a ticket with MSFT to regain your admin credentials to your tenant.
But saying that I have seen situations where customers have had to go legal action to get an MSP to release the admin rights to their tenant, I believe the language used was RANSOMING the functionality of the business. My guess is the current MSP wants paid for something, maybe the contract is not expired, and you are trying to break it mid term, in that case the language of said contract needs to be reviewed by legal counsel to properly determine your rights and course of action.  I am not a lawyer and do not provide legal advice.

We have dealt with this many times, sadly.
Open ticket with msft and provide proof you are the tenant owner.
Does your license bill come from msft or 3rd party. If 3rd party is other than MSP then contact them to regain admin rights.
In several cases the client had to start legal action against the MSP for ransoming the tenant. Now legal should clearly review the MSP contract as it may say he owns it. Non the less delete or ransoming does have legal actions in some states

We are having the same issue and the response from Microsoft was

"Good day! I trust this email finds you well and healthy.

I understand your concern regarding the deletion of your account, and I recognize that your existing CSP relationship is preventing you from proceeding. As per the official Microsoft documentation, we can break your relationship with them. However, I must inform you that due to recent internal updates, we no longer have the capability to break your CSP relationship on your behalf. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and I hope this information provides you with some clarification.

At this point, the best option is to wait until you hear back from your CSP reseller. I recommend contacting them again to inform them of your current situation and request their assistance. I appreciate your understanding as we navigate this process together"

So you are SOL if the MSP doesn't want to play ball

CSP Transfers are different than a CSP not providing admin creditials.
CSP transfers do require the current CSP to agree to the transfer when submitted to the Tier 1 provider (Source provider) by the new CSP.

MSFT will not step in to force the current CSP to release the contract even though financial responsibility to that contract transfers. I have seen 2 (not mentioning names) that deny every request to transfer, therefore we also will not approve any transfers from them ( Yes they are out there low balling pricing to get customers to change mid term, but have less than great support services )
