Ending a reseller and MSP relationship
We had an inattentive MSP so we ended our contract with them in December of 2023. Unfortunately, this MSP is also listed as our MS365 reseller. I've been managing our system just fine without them and they provide no services. I'm not seeking vengeance against the MSP at all, I just want them gone so I do not have to deal with them again.
Is there a clean way for me to be rid of this reseller? Preserving our email system is of prime importance and this MSP seems petty enough to nuke the licenses rather than return control to us. I DO NOT want to lose our email system or our email addresses (we are a small government office and do not want to start the process to get approved for .GOV email addresses again). If I "Remove all partner roles and end the agreement" for this reseller in the partner relationship section of MS365 Admin Center, will anything happen to our email addresses? Is there a better way to accomplish this?
Thanks for any advice!
- Hi Daryn, if you are concerned the current reseller will suspend your licenses you should switch to another reseller. If the licenses are annual, then you will incur a cost but at this time only azure subscriptions can be transferred between resellers.

- jonwbstr24Brass ContributorI will add that while only azure subscriptions can be transferred today, other NCE offers will support transfers later this year if all goes well.

- Daryn_GuarinoCopper ContributorThank you for the response. My licenses are annual, so, as I think I understand it, if I move to another reseller, I will essentially have to pay another annual fee but the old MSP will finally be gone (which is great). It sounds most cost-effective to wait until the license comes up for renewal and then move to the new reseller at that time. How do I change resellers?

Daryn_Guarino I think this string would fit better in our CSP discussion board, so I am moving it on your behalf in order to get you more responses. 🙂
Thank you for being part of the community!

- Nick_BeacroftSteel ContributorIf you are concerned about the integrity of the MSP then you should revoke the DAP/GDAP access.
This has no impact on any licenses they provide but does prevent them gaining access.
Likewise, if the MSP has any user or guest accounts in your tenant, then you should take appropriate precautions.
Assuming your licenses are NCE, annual commitment term, then the MSP could suspend them, but they would as the partner still be billed by Microsoft. So probably not in their interest to this. Otherwise why would pay them for the licenses.
