Please bring "Set Tabs Aside" to New Edge
As a student, I used the Set Tabs Aside feature all the time. It's one of the reasons I used Edge over Chrome in a Google-heavy school. That habit of setting tabs aside has followed me after school, and it has proven useful time and again. So please bring this feature over. This feature has helped define Edge. EDIT: It would also be super amazing to bring Set Tabs Aside to the cloud.35KViews171likes99CommentsUI
Consistency on UI. Add Fluent design effects like shadows and highlight effects. Add History, Download, Favorites button on the top bar like in "old" EDGE. Add History, Download, Favorites on one place. One page with 3 tab maybe? Add a option to display the Open/Save as when download like "old" EDGE. Preview page when hovering it in app bar. The Account tab when press on the bar button is too small (on my device, Surface GO), the text is very small and almost not readble.28KViews168likes103CommentsIt's not Edge if it doesn't have these features!
Please don't ship the new Edge out of beta without these features: from most important to less in my opinion 1. Set Tabs Aside 2. Ask Cortana 3. Better Integration With native Windows 10 features (for example: native share dialoge, Acrylic material etc...) 4. The Shelf UI for bookmarks, history & downloads etc... 5. Add Notes (Inking)20KViews135likes75CommentsEdge container tabs
Hello everyone. One of the things I like in the Firefox is the possibility of using containers. Mozilla have two containers add-on's, Facebook Container (exclusively to the Facebook) and Multi-Account Containers. The first is used to prevent Facebook tracking our online activity by creating an isolated and exclusive environment. Where every cookie, every tracking script, APIs that Facebook creates / uses / have, are isolated inside the container. And the second, is almost the same thing as the first, works by creating an isolated environment as well, but is for any website. The containers are, a some kind, sandboxes. I'd like to see the support for this in the Edge. Microsoft need to bring this to the Edge, but in a natively way without the need of installing any extension. And the option to create a container tab can be placed next to the profile avatar, for example. By the way, Chrome/Chromium do not have support for this. This is a very very useful. About Multi-Account Containers: https://blog.mozilla.org/firefox/introducing-firefox-multi-account-containers/ I do not know if I can put this kind of links, but, if I broke any rule, I'll remove this post.114KViews133likes91CommentsAdd the epub reader from EdgeUWP to Edge Chromium.
I know this might be considered a 'niche' feature for some, as I see it's left out of a lot of the feature suggestions for the new Edge; however, alongside the other inking/reading features in old Edge, I used this feature quite frequently. It's great for students/academics. For extra context, I never purchased books from Microsoft's books section of the Microsoft Store--not one, but I definitely used epub files in Edge. Additionally, because there's no other native e-reader in Windows 10, as there is on iOS, MacOS, and most Android-based devices in some capacity, and the e-readers in the Microsoft Store are terrible, this feature is desperately needed for those who use it. What's the point of having Windows 10 devices be touch-enabled without a decent e-reader?? Frankly, this feature distinguished Edge from other browsers for me and was the only reason I kept it on my taskbar as other work that I do required the blink engine. New Edge needs to remain competitive with other browsers, and this would be one way to do it. Otherwise, a native reader separately packaged with OneDrive integration for libraries would be amazing--but I think that could usefully be done here.14KViews88likes18CommentsDiscussion - Updating our interface with Fluent touches
Hi Insiders. We have received a whole lot of feedback on the overall design of the next version of Microsoft Edge. First off, we would like to thank you all for the feedback that you have submitted. We also want you to know that we are continuing to evolve the look and feel of the new Microsoft Edge. You can see our progress in our new icon, in the changes to dark theme, on the layout of the settings pages and in the style of the controls that we have added so far. Our goal has been to modernize the next version of Microsoft Edge while keeping the feel of the original. In the five years since we released the first Microsoft Edge browser with Windows 10, the Microsoft Design Language has and will continue to change and adapt. We have been evolving our user interface with this in mind and may be the first place you see some of these changes. We are planning on continuing to apply elements of the Microsoft Design Language to align with other Microsoft products. We are thrilled with how much you think about the look and feel of the new Microsoft Edge browser. As we dug into the feedback, we found different ideas lumped together into very broad buckets and felt like we needed to re-sort the issues into new categories that are more specific to the actual issues that were being discussed. The previous categories that we have been reporting on are: Update the user interface with the Fluent Design System Make tabs more square and less rounded, like the current version of Microsoft Edge Provide a transparent theme for the browser frame The address bar and text are too large The first step of this journey was to dig into each of the feedback items individually and understand what your ask was, and if there was a reason listed for the feedback. This helped us better understand why you are asking for these changes. The next step we took was to recombine the feedback and sort it into more specific buckets. We understand change is challenging, and we are not changing our interface just to be different. We have been working closely with our designers to get a look and feel that aligns with our Fluent Design language and meets our standards for usability and accessibility. It is our goal for our design to be easier to use on a daily basis. When you provide feedback, it helps us to challenge our assumptions and makes us reanalyze our conclusions. Based on this analysis, we are seeing the following themes emerge from your comments: we will be tracking and following feedback in these categories going forward: Ability to add distinct color or color themes to the main browser interface. Add transparency or other material effect to the main browser interface. The corners of the tabs and browser buttons have been rounded too much. Make the tab band and address bar / toolbar smaller if device doesn’t support touch capability. Update or add animations to user interface. Add a reveal effect to highlight on mouse hover. We would love to start talking about these items now. Please let us know if you think that we are on the right track with the changes we have made so far. The most impactful feedback is that which lists the task that you are trying to accomplish, the challenges that you face while accomplishing it, and your ideas on how it could be made easier. Also, feel free to reach out if you think that we have missed something important here. We will always take feedback and suggestions to help us make this the best, fastest, most productive browser possible.Solved140KViews82likes479CommentsBring Multi-Account Container Tabs to Edge
Elliot Kirk David Rubino I really hope that Multi-Account Container Tabs feature is in the todo list of Edge team. As you know, Firefox is the first major browser to introduce this innovative functionality for safe and organized browsing experience. But Multi-Account Containers can also be used by web developers as an important and time saving tool. This can be one of the big differentiating features of Edge. The Problem While building multi-role web applications we need to constantly logout and login with different user accounts. There should be a better way to improve this workflow. Current Solutions Incognito mode: Gives only one extra session. Multiple profiles: Different profiles are separate instances. Currently it is not possible to sync among multiple profiles. So even profiles allow multiple sessions, it is very difficult to use as a workaround for multi-container tabs. Specially without history, bookmarks, and passwords the benefit of multiple session is very little. Better Solutions Multi-Account Container tabs Allow syncing among multiple local Edge profiles. Because it is not possible to create so many real online Outlook accounts to get container tabs like benefit. To make it even helpful allow automatically merging data of selected local profiles to one chosen Outlook profile. Show option to re-create those local profiles when logs into Edge in another machine with that consolidated Outlook profile. Hello everyone and thanks for your significant interest in our feedback item of “Provide run / open / save as options when downloading files”. This has been a very interesting problem to think through. The downloads team would love your thoughts on whether we have identified the main customer needs such a feature would need to address. We believe that there are three main things being asked for: You would like a way to open a file without having to keep it on your computer so that your downloads folder remains “clean” (eg. You want to view your bank statement, but want it deleted after you are finished looking at it) You would like a way to choose the filename and location to save the downloaded file so that you can better organize your downloads (eg. You download a family photo IMG_1502.jpg and want to rename it to Reunion2019.jpg and save it in your Photos folder) You still want a light-weight downloads process that does not require many clicks (eg. User wants to download multiple photos in succession and move them in bulk afterwards without having to click “Save” each time). This is what our downloads flow currently addresses; one click to download. You would like a way to easily switch between (1), (2), and (3) for different files you are downloading; one size does not fit all (eg. For bank statements, you want to just open it, and have it deleted afterwards. But for family photos, you want to be able to rename and save to a specific location). Do you think we are thinking in the right direction? We are still exploring possible solutions to this problem and any additional feedback is most welcome!Solved53KViews72likes216CommentsDiscussion - Set Aside Tabs and Warn on Close
Hi Insiders, we have received a lot of feedback about how you would like to close your tabs with the option of easily finding and reopening them later as you move between different workflows. Specifically, many of you are asking for the Tab Set Aside feature from the previous version of Microsoft Edge to be brought back. Some of you are also asking for a prompt to help avoid losing all your tabs such that you can’t find them again if you accidentally close the browser. • Ask users if they want to close all tabs when they close a browser window • Bring the tab set aside feature from the current version of Microsoft Edge Each of these requests seem related to the fact that many of you have a lot of tabs open at once across many tasks and workflows. This leads to a situation where it can often be difficult to manage all of your tabs at the same time, and each additional tab makes it difficult to deal with all of the rest (e.g. tabs get smaller, harder to read each titles, many similar tab icons begin to blur together, etc.). But it can also be scary to close tabs and declutter your workspace, for fear of not being able to find things again later if you need to. We have definitely experienced this problem ourselves, observed it in our research and conversations with users, and agree it is an area where we want to invest in tools to help you be more productive across various tasks. We are actively investigating the best way to address this problem and would love your help and input as we proceed to make sure we get the experience just right. We have looked through your feedback, and there are definitely some very valid reasons for why there was value in the Set Aside feature such as: Helping you pick up on a task later without leaving the tabs open when you aren’t using them, organizing your tabs into groups related to a similar task, and a short term home for more transient tasks that didn’t warrant saving in a permanent location such as Favorites. We also reviewed feedback on the Set Aside feature itself from people actually using it in the previous version of Microsoft Edge, and there were some very valid critiques on how it worked and how it could be improved. For example, the Set Aside buttons being in a location where they were often accidentally clicked causing some to think their tabs had disappeared, requests to be able to set aside a subset of the currently open tabs rather than “all or nothing”, or requests to rename and personalize tab groups further to more easily find them again later. The request for a prompt before closing the browser also feels related, because if people could always confidently find and reopen any of their previous tabs, then there would be less fear or concern about losing tabs if they are accidently closed. This would allow people to feel free to declutter and reduce the number of open tabs with no fear about finding them later if needed, and more easily focus on the subset of tabs they are working on now. As we begin this journey of investigating how best to address these requests, we are asking for your help. Please continue to tell us more about your experience with Set Aside and closing tabs in Microsoft Edge, why these features are important to you in which types of tasks, what did and didn’t work for you about previous implementations, and how you would improve on these scenarios going forward.86KViews70likes337CommentsAdd pdf editing mode
Apprantly, Microsoft Edge (old one) was my pdf reader/editor. It had great features such as adding notes, drawing on it. However, this chronium version do not have those. I really hope Microsoft adds these features back. Also, I wish you can add text boxes on pdf. (P.S scrolling on chronium edge is laggy and not smooth at all!)4.9KViews61likes24CommentsAdd Extension Support for Android version of Edge browser
It's possible, there are browsers like Kiwi that support it. would be great if Microsoft Edge did the same and allowed our extensions used in desktop to be used on Android phones and tablets too. of course this needs to be considered in the process of revamping the current Edge Android version and swapping its engines.Solved166KViews60likes74CommentsWe're Listening!
Greetings Microsoft Edge Insiders! Let us start off by saying, welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community! We’re so excited to have you here, and we can’t wait to start learning from you. If you haven’t read our Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community article yet, we recommend starting there. It has a bunch of great information on how we got here and where we’re heading. Our mission: Our mission is to create a thriving community of valuable Insiders, like you, so we can closely listen and learn how Microsoft Edge can be better. We believe that having open, honest, and continued conversations with our Insider community is a great way to build a close relationship with our users. Why do all of this? Because we want to build a browser that’s deeply grounded in your needs. Your voice is the most important piece of helping us build a better Microsoft Edge. The feedback you provide leads to meaningful conversations that may ultimately produce the new features, bug fixes, and other improvements that matter the most to you. Listening is just the beginning for us. Our true goal is to build Microsoft Edge with the voice of the Insider community as our guiding light. Community voice When we announced the next version of Microsoft Edge back in December, we asked a simple question: If you could change one thing about the web, what would it be? We were completely humbled by the over 40k comments you’ve shared with us. That’s a whole lot of ideas. Thank you! You tell us that you love some things about the current Microsoft Edge browser, like the smooth scrolling experience, our Fluent Design and the precision touchpad, and you hope we’ll bring those things forward into the next version too. Some of you are frustrated with the way that sites render so differently depending on the browser you're using to view them. You also tell us that Web Standards are on the top of your mind. We hear that you want all browsers to adopt the same standards. We hear from some of you web developers that you want new capabilities added to the web platform; whether that be in CSS, HTML or JavaScript. Another top request is an improved dev tools experience. We hear that you have strong feelings about online advertising. Some of you wish ads that pop-up would just disappear and the same for auto-playing ads. While others feel a strong desire to remove or fundamentally change how online advertising works on the web. There is concern how these advertisements enable sites to track you as you browse which feels "creepy" and "invasive." The overwhelming majority of comments (we’re talking thousands of messages) that we have read wish for a change in the fundamental attributes of the web. Make it faster, safer, more reliable and more private. You want your browsers to have smaller memory footprints, lower battery consumption, higher rendering speed and better stability. We agree with you wholeheartedly! The attributes that you say matter most in your browsing experience are performance, privacy, and reliability. So that is where we are starting. We are focusing on delivering outstanding fundamentals. Speed, stability, accessibility, compatibility, security, and privacy are always top of mind for us. We are using your comments and suggestions to guide us while we are getting the new Microsoft Edge ready for its debut. What’s next? In the meantime, jump in, download the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, and let us know what you think. What’s working well? Where do we need to improve? Over time, we hope to build healthy engagement and feedback loops with our community members. We’re also mindful that our users have preferred ways to engage with us. Whether you view the latest information on the Microsoft Edge Insider website, enjoy direct discussions on our forum, need a personal support assistant via help (F1), share your feedback and suggestions via the smiley face, or just want to give us a shout on Twitter, we’re always listening and looking for ways to reach out wherever our users feel most comfortable and prefer to talk to us. We’re all ears! Thank you for being here. We look forward to listening and engaging with you. -The Microsoft Edge Team-291KViews60likes1189CommentsEdge Collections - Star To Collect - bad idea not to include a remove option
I noticed in the newer versions of edge collections "Start to collect" - After searching I've found this to be a very bad addition to collections. Collections actually got me away from pocket but with this "Start to collect" I am wanting to go back to pocket. I submitted feedback but am hoping MSFT is reading these as Edge is a great browser - the collection option is great - especially when my favorites are full/unorganize I use collections for my "focus on" options.21KViews53likes102CommentsIntroducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Note: We are in the process of deploying this feature, so it may be a little while before you see it in your respective channel and build. To improve memory and CPU utilization of the browser, we've developed a feature called sleeping tabs. Early internal testing of devices with sleeping tabs has shown a median memory usage reduction of 26% for Microsoft Edge. Our internal testing has also shown that a normal background tab uses 29% more CPU for Microsoft Edge than a sleeping tab. These resource savings should result in excellent battery savings. Although individual device performance varies depending on configuration and usage, we expect the decrease in resource and battery usage to create a better browsing experience for users. Sleeping tabs builds upon the core of Chromium’s “freezing” technology. Freezing pauses a tab’s script timers to minimize resource usage. A sleeping tab resumes automatically when clicked, which is different than discarded tabs, which require the page to fully be reloaded. We built upon the freezing technology to create sleeping tabs. This feature allows inactive background tabs to “go to sleep,” releasing system resources after a set amount of time. These resources include both memory and CPU and can be used for new or existing tabs or other applications running on your device. By default, we’ve set tabs to go to sleep after two hours of inactivity. If two hours isn’t right for you, you can choose a different time interval in edge://settings/system. Tabs that are asleep will fade to let you know they’ve released resources. To resume a sleeping tab, click on it like a normal tab. The tab will un-fade and your content will be there immediately. You can also add sites you never want to sleep to a block list in Settings. With this technology, it is possible that some sites may not work as expected after they go to sleep. We have built heuristics to detect these scenarios and prevent those tabs from sleeping to keep you in your flow. We are eager to get your feedback on sleeping tabs. If you experience a compat issue, please refresh the page and let us know through Microsoft Edge by pressing Shift+Alt+I on a Windows device or going to Settings and more … > Help and feedback > Send feedback. Sleeping tabs will be coming soon to Canary and Dev Channels [87.0.649.0]. If you see the sleeping tabs feature while browsing, please join us here on the Microsoft Edge Insider forums or Twitter to discuss your experience, or send us your feedback through the browser! If you have any questions, see our FAQ or reach out to us. We hope you enjoy this exciting new feature and look forward to hearing from you! - The Microsoft Edge Product Team300KViews53likes214CommentsMicrosoft Edge Insiders Community Guidelines
