highlighted content
25 TopicsVery disappointed in the Highlighted Content web part
I'm trying to build a new, future-proof, and user-friendly intranet in SharePoint by solely using the Modern UI, but I'm getting really frustrated by the lack of robust web parts. In particular, as a longtime Content Query and Content Search Web Part fan, I've been extremely let down by the Highlighted Content web part. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel and call it a lemon! Here's a list of some of the ways the Highlighted Content web part has let me down over the past couple weeks: Doesn't work with custom content types Some content types are just buggy and don't work (I had to convert Contacts and Issues lists into standard Lists because they weren't showing up, but then of course the HC doesn't work with Lists either) Filtering and sorting by managed properties doesn't work for some content types Multiple filters can ONLY be strung together with OR logic, not AND... this absolutely boggles the mind No custom display templates Can't sort Tasks by the Due Date column, but you can by Created and Modified.... whaaaat? A bug that I figured out a workaround for... If you want to filter Tasks by Assigned To = [Me], you have to choose Contains not Equals (but since you can't apply multiple filters, you can't remove completed Tasks from the query result) Despite my intention to keep 100% to the Modern UI, limitations like those described here are still forcing me to deploy some pages as Classic. If the Highlighted Content web part is supposed to be the newer better version of the good ol' CQWP and CSWP, it's got a LOT of work to do. It's borderline unusable right now for all but a handful of scenarios, none of which I find particularly useful for building a real intranet. I'd love to hear from Microsoft that they are aware of these issues and are working to address them...17KViews6likes18CommentsHighlighted content web part not filtering on refinablestrings
Trying to use the highlighted content wp to show specific content based on custom properties. Some of these are mapped to refinablestrings which I cannot get to show in the managed properties filter drop down. Actually the only refinablestring managed property that shows up is Refinablestring11. I don't get why this is showing when the others are not as there is no apparent difference in the search schema. Any way to get my custom properties into the query builder?7.9KViews1like13CommentsHow to sort Highlighted Content by Date Created
I'm using Highlighted Content to provide a list of documents in a directory using Filter to show items that have Active in the Status column. This way, regardless of the number of nested folders an item may be in, anything with Active in Status will appear in this Highlighted Content web part (a VERY useful feature!!). Currently, it's sorted by Most Recent but I want to sort by Date Created. As we acquire new documents, they should appear at the top of the list (provided Active is set in Status). The issue with sorting by Most Recent is that this is putting the most recent MODIFIED documents at the top of Highlighted Content. Is there a way to build a Custom Query to sort by Date Created?Solved7.5KViews0likes5CommentsPDF problem: highlight, bookmark, and read text
I had been using Edge Browser as my default PDF viewer for the past 3 years. After installing the new version of edge, I've got disappointed by it lacks many pdf features such as: Auto highlight option and color when blocking the text/phrases on pdf Ability to navigate through the bookmark And the ability to read pdf text using audio. The reason why I used Edge because it has higher stability than most of the other pdf readers. It scrolls smoothly and much simpler than most of the browsers. Now I'm using Foxit Reader which has a lot better features but lacks stability when scrolling through pages. I hope those missing features are coming to Edge as soon as possible because I'm tired of searching and using another pdf reader. Help me, developers, you're my only hope ðŸ˜7KViews4likes3CommentsHighlighted Content Webpart filtering as "or" instead of "and" with multiple metadata filters
Hi All, I am trying to set up a Highlighted content webpart so that I can pull through specific documentation into a communication site view for end users to access. The idea behind this is that our training team has all the training documents in their document library, each document is tagged with "Finance, Compliance, IT" etc. What we want to do is surface onto a "Finance Page" all of the "Finance Training" documents in one webpart, and in another, all of the "Finance Policy" documents. So we have set up as follows: Training document library contains all training docs Each document is tagged with their function (e.g. finance) Each document is tagged with "Training Document" Compliance document library contains all policy docs Each document is tagged with their function (e.g. finance) Each document is tagged with "Policy Document" Now I have set up crawled and managed properties etc. So I can display in the Highlighted Content webpart all documents tagged with "Finance" I can also display all documents tagged with "Training Document" What I want to do now is bring through all documents that are tagged "Finance" AND "Training Document". However the Highlighted Content Webpart, when I put these two filters in, bring through any documents that are tagged with "Finance" and any documents that are tagged with "Training Document" so I am bringing through all the Finance Policy Documents and the IT Training Documents. Am I doing something wrong, is this the intended behaviour? Will we be able to select an "and/or" filter soon? Seems crazy that this isn't working for managed metadata (because it works as expected when you use the "Title contains" filter!) Thanks for any help! I have a library of PDF's that I want to display via Highlighted content Web part on Sharepoint Online. However the preview of the documents are just not the look and feel I am wanting in the webpart. Is there any way to change the thumbnails to actual images and not document preview thumbnails??6.3KViews0likes2CommentsHighlighted content web part not showing videos
Where do video files need to be stored (what type of library or list) and of what file type or content type do they need to be to be picked up by the highlighted content web part when it is set to show only content of type Video in the site collection? I have used an assets library and mp4 files. They files play fine in the app itself, but the highlighted content web part is not showing them when I configure it to show Video files. (I do see that the files are being indexed as I can get them showing if I ask the web part to for example show content added today, so my question is more related to the query applied by the web part not really working for me.)6.3KViews0likes8CommentsHighlighted content - managed property search box no longer working (field greyed out)
Many of my sites use the highlighted content web part in conjunction with refinable fields for filtering/sorting. However all of a sudden my "Find a Managed Property" dropdown search is no longer working. The Managed Property Name field is greyed out regardless of what I enter in the search box. (and previously I could view the full list if I didn't enter any search term). I can't get any results to return and can't type in any value. I have tried different browsers and different sites but it's greyed out everywhere See attached screenshot. This has caused major issues for my users.5.6KViews1like4CommentsModern Experience: Highlighted Content - filter for two "and" connected managed properties
Modern Experience sites provide the "Highlighted Content" web part for dynamically filtering content. Filtering works like this: Title contains: project AND Created by is: John Doe AND Managed Property PercentageComplete contains: 100 If you select different filters, they are connected by "AND". But: If you select a filter twice it gets connected with "OR". That makes sense in this example: Title contains: project OR Title contains: order AND Created by is: John Doe AND Managed Property PercentageComplete contains: 100 But if you need to filter on two Managed Properties you struggle with this limitations: Title contains: project AND Created by is: John Doe AND Managed Property PercentageComplete contains: 100 OR Managed Property AssignedTo contains: [ME] Microsoft describes behavior here: https://support.content.office.net/de-de/media/15b638d5-fc1c-434d-8e5e-aa1809b819f7.jpg Has anyone an idea how to get around this?4.8KViews0likes4Comments"Highlighted Content" Web Part Columns to Show/Hide
Hey All, Right now when I use the "Highlighted Content" web part, it includes the file type, Title, Modified and Modified By columns. Is there any way to choose which columns to show (or hide)? I'd like to just show the file type and Title columns. Thanks. ScottSolved3.9KViews2likes3Comments
