Re: Double-clicking Outlook system tray icons no longer restores the app since Moment 2 update
frederick_hope, The description you shared is exactly the bug. If you test with other apps in the system tray do you see the same issue? The original bug was for Task Manager but it was addressed for the apps in the system tray. I just tested Task Manager and it is working for me also on this machine. Also, just to double check I am not overlooking anything I have had other colleagues that were escalating the issue test and confirm the fix too. I was looking for other feedback in the Feedback Hub to see if any other reports there. The only issue that I had not seen earlier is this one "Can't open apps or context menus for icons in the show hidden icons flyout in system tray in Windows 11". I don't repro this one either but I also don't have many icons in the hidden flyout. If you test this does it work for you? Since you still repro maybe there are multiple root causes or manifests on different configurations. Please go to the Windows Feedback Hub and submit a feedback to help ensure it gets escalated. The bug I tracked was the only one I saw that was open for it.1.7KViews1like1CommentRe: Double-clicking Outlook system tray icons no longer restores the app since Moment 2 update
One of my colleagues checked with the Windows Team and the fix is supposed to be in production Win 11 23H2 October and later. He and I are on Beta and see it fixed there. My Beta is currently at 23H2 build 22635.2552.1.8KViews1like3CommentsRe: Double-clicking Outlook system tray icons no longer restores the app since Moment 2 update
Thanks for checking it @Frederic_Hope. I was able to repro this previously and also submitted feedback for it on the Feedback Hub. I'll be interested to see if you still repro when you get to 22631.2191.2.7KViews1like1CommentRe: Double-clicking Outlook system tray icons no longer restores the app since Moment 2 update
Hi all, It appears that this issue is fixed for future Windows builds (a related bug was fixed for Task Manager having the same issue). The first fixed build is 22621.2050. I'm on Windows 11 Beta build 22631.2191 and I see it fixed in that build. If anyone else is on Beta and can test and double check me, please do.2.9KViews1like3CommentsRe: The sudden removal of public folder access in outlook on the web
I'm not aware of this change. The only issue I am tracking with Public Folders is that Owners can no longer delete them from the UI and temporarily have to use Powershell, https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/alchemyinsights/owner-cannot-delete-public-folder I'll ping my peers and ask them to post if they know anything about this change.7.6KViews1like13CommentsRe: "Close original message window when replying or forwarding" option in Outlook 365 doesn't work
peteryee, I don't work as much on Perpetual SKUs but I think the version should be higher than what you have. From what I know Office 2021 Perpetual should be Volume License or Retail on this page, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-office-2021. I am not sure what could be the discrepancy but from what I see the version should be higher.13KViews1like1CommentRe: "Close original message window when replying or forwarding" option in Outlook 365 doesn't work
peteryee, One thing to check is if you can update to a newer build (File, Office Account, Update Options, Update Now). The Version/Build you are on is a pretty old build. For reference this page shows the latest builds per channel, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-microsoft365-apps-by-date?redirectSourcePath=%252fen-us%252farticle%252fae942449-1fca-4484-898b-a933ea23def7.13KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
I apologize for the delay. I'm not sure why the update is not out yet. I am checking with Windows and will report back shortly. We are still looking for KB5011563. As soon as the update is out, I would expect it to show here, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/windows11-release-information#windows-11-release-history.4.8KViews1like3CommentsRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Jj7777 Hi all, The Windows 11 update with the Search fixes is KB5011563. Its currently out to Windows Insiders in Beta and Release Preview channels. The Outlook In-App Team is still also trying to validate the fixes with those that opened In App tickets. Once I know when that update will go to production I will post back. Here are the updates we have been testing with the fixes: Windows 10: KB5011543, Released to prod, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/march-22-2022-kb5011543-os-builds-19042-1620-19043-1620-and-19044-1620-preview-4fe2d1c0-720f-47fe-9523-75339bc107a1 Windows 11: KB5011563, Released to Windows Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview Channels, https://blogs.windows.com/blog/2022/03/15/releasing-windows-11-build-22000-588-to-beta-and-release-preview-channels/ Windows Server 2022: KB5011558, Released to prod, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/march-22-2022-kb5011558-os-build-20348-617-preview-8bb6ded6-7515-44eb-9fa0-e214eb6d7a75 Windows Server 2019: KB5011551, Released to Preview, https://prod.support.services.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/march-22-2022-kb5011551-os-build-17763-2746-preview-690a59cd-059e-40f4-87e8-e9139cc65de43.5KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi all, An Office Insider opened a ticket on Windows 11 and validated the update fixes the issues for that platform. We still need help validating Windows 10. Windows 10 should not currently have the problem after Feb 8 updates, but we would still like to test the upcoming update and make sure it has not regressed. If anyone on Windows 10 can help test, please open an In App ticket (Help, Contact Support) from Outlook. Office Insiders and Tenant Admins have the Contact Support option.4.3KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi all, The Windows Team asked us to help test upcoming updates that fix the Windows 10 and Windows 11 search issues. The steps to install these updates will require working with support. If you have Office Subscription and Office Insider or are M365 Tenant Admin then you should have Outlook Contact Support (Help, Contact Support). If you want to help test the updates, please open an In App ticket (Help, Contact Support). When you open the In App ticket, please share this forum thread and what windows platform you can test. Windows 10 21H2 Windows 11 Windows Server 2022 Windows Server 2019 Although Windows 10 should be mitigated since the Feb 8 Windows Updates, the original changes that caused the issue will be added back in the updates coming March 15. This is the Known Issue for reference, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-search-not-showing-recent-emails-after-windows-update-kb5008212-cc5345cf-8007-403a-bb23-f3818653c2df.4.9KViews0likes5CommentsRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi all, I got an update from Windows that the fix for Windows 11 WDS search is anticipated for the March 15th, 2022, Windows Public Updates. I have added this status to the Outlook Known Issue article, Outlook Search not showing recent emails after Windows update KB5008212 (microsoft.com). I also updated the same article to indicate Windows 10 was fixed in the February 8th, 2022, Windows Public Updates (RS5 and Vibranium). Windows 10 will also get the same fixes as Windows 11 in the March 15, 2022, Windows Public Updates.3.8KViews3likes1CommentRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi all, I am checking with Windows on any status updates. I believe the Windows Known Issue Rollback was automatically implemented in the Windows 10 updates that went out yesterday 2/8/22. If you install those updates, can you check and confirm if that helped to mitigate? I am checking further on a long-term fix status. For Windows 11 there was no rollback option, so we have to wait for the fix. I am checking with Windows if there is any date yet. In the meantime, please use the Outlook Workaround. The Outlook Workaround is to set a registry key that will cause Outlook to use its built-in search. I created some reg key downloads to make it easier to use, https://1drv.ms/u/s!AobSYdEz_BdhhuZZo1KZ0xAi7U7t-w?e=xZLQna. 1. To use the Outlook workaround download the enable_preventindexing.reg key from my OneDrive link above. 2. After it downloads click Open and then OK when prompted. This will set the registry key. 3. After the registry key is set restart Outlook Desktop. You will know the reg key is set because you will see this message above the search results: After the fix comes out you can disable the workaround by doing the following: 1. In the OneDrive link above download the disable_preventindexing.reg key. 2. After it download click Open and then OK when prompted. This will set the registry key. 3. After the registry key is set restart Outlook Desktop.4.3KViews0likes9CommentsRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi All, Here are some steps our Outlook Support Team pulled together for implementing the Known Issue Rollback. Download and Install the MSI file corresponding to the impacted Windows 10 version from (see links under Group Policy), https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-10-21h2#2778msgdesc The successful install of the MSI file will lay down the ADMX and ADML files in the “C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions” folder: Now Open the Local Group Policy Editor via Start->run->gpedit.msc Navigate to Local Computer Policy -> Administrative Templates -> KB 5007253 Issue 002 Rollback -> Windows 10, version 2004 20H2 and 21H1 Double Click on the policy Setting on the right labelled “KB####### Issue XXX Rollback”. This will open the policy and you should see the below screen The default setting is “Not Configured”. Change the value for the KB 5007253 Issue 002 Rollback policy to “Disabled" then click "OK" to disable the regression Reboot the device for the changes to take effect4.8KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
PaulBrainard, The only Outlook search issues I currently know about are those discussed in this thread. Since your users are using Exchange accounts, I would try the following: Set this Regkey to 0: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search] "PreventIndexingOutlook"=dword:00000000 Set this Regkey to 1: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\16.0\Outlook\Search] "DisableServerAssistedSearch"=dword:00000001 With this configuration Outlook should only do WDS search. Make sure Cached Mode is enabled and Sync Slider (Mail to keep offline) is set to how much email you need to index, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/troubleshoot/data-files/fewer-emails-in-shared-mailboxes-or-public-folders. If you search with this configuration and do not find expected results, then I would expect you are seeing one of these issues: 1. Search Indexing has not completed which you can use the steps in this article to check, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-search-does-not-return-results-after-upgrade-to-windows-11-cc54dfee-ee78-4123-a9af-7986748052ef. 2. Indexing is completed but you are not seeing expected search results which is the main issue of this thread, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-search-not-showing-recent-emails-after-windows-update-kb5008212-cc5345cf-8007-403a-bb23-f3818653c2df. I quickly tested the PreventIndexingOutlook with Exchange accounts and it still appeared to me Outlook was using MAPI or server search. I would only use this key for POP/IMAP or Exchange if completely offline and no connection to the server.5.6KViews0likes1CommentRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi all, Windows provided some guidance on remediation, and I am about to update our Outlook article with this information, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-search-not-showing-recent-emails-after-windows-update-kb5008212-cc5345cf-8007-403a-bb23-f3818653c2df. For Windows 10 the mitigation information is included in these articles below. The mitigation is to implement a Known Issue Rollback (KIR). I am not sure on the complexity of this but if I get any better steps I will post back and share those. • https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-10-21h2#2778msgdesc • https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-10-21h1#2778msgdesc • https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-10-20h2#2778msgdesc • https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-10-1809-and-windows-server-2019#2778msgdesc For Windows 11, the Windows Team says the issue has been in the product since Win 11 RTM and because of that there is no KIR to mitigate. Until a fix can be released, please use the Outlook mitigation to set the registry key to use the Outlook built-in search currently listed in our Outlook article, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-search-not-showing-recent-emails-after-windows-update-kb5008212-cc5345cf-8007-403a-bb23-f3818653c2df. Here is the Windows 11 guidance for this issue: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-21h2#2778msgdesc5.8KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
DumiduGamage, This issue will affect all Outlook versions because they all use Windows Desktop Search. However, if your email is hosted in the M365 cloud it will not be as big of an issue. Outlook M365 uses Service Search for most searches for Exchange Online hosted mailboxes. Search for POP/IMAP and Exchange offline all use WDS so those are all affected. I don't have confirmation yet but I do think this issue affects Windows 11 starting with update https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/december-14-2021-kb5008215-os-build-22000-376-868d2c2f-a201-456e-be42-d95c794bebf0. I have seen reports with it but Windows has not confirmed that too me yet. The Windows Team is actively working on this issue. As soon as we know when a fix is available, I'll post back with that info.10KViews2likes3Comments
