SharePoint File Viewer web part does not display ScreenTips from PowerPoint or Visio

Copper Contributor

Hello,

I am trying to embed a PowerPoint or Visio (or pdf) file in a SharePoint page (modern experience) using the File Viewer web part, and I have set up ScreenTips in the original files to show popup info when the user hovers over a shape.  It works fine when using the desktop apps for the file types, but does not work when displaying on the SharePoint page.  Is there anything I can do, or does this functionality not exist for SharePoint pages?

Unfortunately, the ScreenTips feature in PowerPoint, Visio or PDF files is not supported in the File Viewer web part in SharePoint modern pages. To display pop-up information when hovering over a shape, you may need to create a custom web part or use third-party add-ons. It's also possible to embed the original file in an iframe and use JavaScript to add the hover functionality.
Ok, thanks Adnan, that's kind of what I thought, just wanted to be sure there wasn't some other non-custom or 3rd party add-on way to do it. I've explored some of these other options as well, but either the cost is prohibitive for our use, or my skills are not that advanced (yet). 😉 Thanks for confirming!
Yes that 3rd party options would add extra cost and time effort.

Do mark it as answer if it answered your post.
Does anyone know where I should go (link please) to request this functionality be added to SharePoint Pages?
I'd also like to request this functionality, it would be exceptionally helpful... was there an answer to this?
