Moving folders with metadata and versions

How do people best move folders with files that have version history in a way that maintains the version history?

Is the only way with a third party tool and if so is there an inexpensive one?

Thnks,
Rob.

  • We used Sharegate for a client and changed the folder structure to Metadata, it was quite easy using Sharegate.

  • Depends on where you are moving them from. If it's within a site collection I believe manage content & structure would work for you just fine. Otherwise I would probably go with a 3rd party tool.

Content & Structure won't move Folders unfortunately, that is my problem.

  • As said by Juan, ShareGate,Metalogix are good for migration tools as per my view. I used both tools in my career, both are good. It will give more features which you expected in day to day life.
  • Lepide Migrator, Sharegate are the ones I know...Sharegate simply rocks...depending on the amount of data to be migrated, you might also consider Metalogix and AvePoint offerings
