Fonts stripped out of templates posted to Sharepoint

My company uses Powerpoint and Word templates to maintain consistency company wide. Problem is, our company fonts, although installed on everyone's computer, get stripped out upon download from Sharepoint. Is there any way to maintain non-native fonts in a template document after download?

  • Hi Allison - I have been meaning to look into this as well.  I just did a little test in our environment and my Fonts were preserved.  Here is what I did:

    • Downloaded UW PPTX Template that requires Encode Sans, Open Sans, Uni Sans to my computer.
    • Uploaded file to a SharePoint Online site collection.
    • Opened file in PowerPoint Online, selected text and was surprised to see our fonts listed when I selected different text.
    • Added a Bullet Point to one of the slides.
    • Added a new slide to the deck.
    • Closed deck in PowerPoint Online.
    • Downloaded deck to computer and opened in PowerPoint on my computer.
    • Verified that the fonts were still our Brand standard fonts.

This is not what I expected. I expected substitute fonts to be applied after opening and editing in PowerPoint Online.

Can you suggest another test that should allow me to reproduce the font substitution?

    Thanks - Greg

  • I had a similar problem with our company Font and PowerPoint. In the end, I had to choose the option to embed all characters in the font and not just the used ones. This had to be done also for sharing with external users who didn't have the font.
