Cannot update Hub Site Navigation

Brass Contributor

Anyone else having issues today updating Hub Site navigation?  Tried Different Browsers, Users, Computer, existing and New Hub site... I make the change, hit Save and nothing changes.  I opened a ticket, trying to figure out if anyone else is having the same problem

The only way I've been successful was by using Term Store Navigation for the Global Nav.  It does take time to propagate to the newly provisioned sites in the Hub.  But if I update the Hub settings it seems to happen a bit faster.

Years later and this STILL hasn't been fixed. I can only make changes to "hub" nav from a system page like site contents. More Msft garbage.
I was able to achieve this using some custom JS code. Since I was developing a custom application for SharePoint online, I was able to embed that code in my application. Read more below to know more about the approach I used.

I can't even make changes from system pages. how is this still a thing?

It could be due to an incorrect link address.

When you have entered an incorrent link address you can still hit OK in the 'Add' menu and then hit the save button to save the navigation menu. However, it doesn't really save your edits. It won't generate an error either.

You'll know that your changes are not actually saved because the 'Edit hub navigation' panel won't dissapear after you hit the save button and you won't find your edits in the navigation menu.

Try to enter a valid link address (for example https://www.microsoft.com and see if that does save the menu accordingly. If so, then you know it's due to a faulty link address.
