Teams is KILLING my Mac Every Day
- Jul 14, 2022
Hi everyone, we're pleased to announce Microsoft Teams for Apple Silicon, which on the M1/M2 ARM builds, will have significantly faster performance than what's seen during the Rosetta emulation today! Here's our official roadmap ID for this release; Microsoft 365 Roadmap | Microsoft 365. More on this can be found here; Announcing Microsoft Teams optimized for Apple silicon - Microsoft Tech Community.
Users should see a significant performance boost with this release. And for the Intel Macs out there, we're still thinking about you! We have some large performance fixes coming that will help improve overall performance for the Intel version as well.
Thanks,
Sam Cosby, Teams Engineering PM
Thank you for these improvements and for listening!
- Sam CosbyNov 03, 2021MicrosoftThat's fantastic to hear. We're continuing to double down our performance investments in both the Mac & Windows apps and you should continue to see significant improvements as we progress forward. Timelines are a bit challenging to project but I've spoken to the team about some of the issues brought up here and can confirm that we're working as fast as possible to continue to give you the best possible experience on the product.
Thanks again for letting us know and we're always listening!

Is there an updated release version since 1.4.00.22368? Someone referenced a November release version, but I cannot find any details about a newer version for Mac since the September release. Any news about a beta or other version to try?
Thanks,
Richard- Sam CosbyNov 03, 2021Microsoft1.4.00.22368 is the current stable release for Mac but there's a rollout for 1.4.00.29477 that's ongoing right now. It's at 50% propagation so it should roll out sooner rather than later.

Sam Cosby I am dealing with performance issues using my 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 Mac Mini.
I am considering buying an external GPU to help with this. If you had an idea if this would help, before I spend the $600+ that would be very much appreciated!Do you think an external GPU would help with teams meetings with many people's cameras running?

rickbunker buying an external GPU will most likely be a waste of money. I have macbook pro 16 with the top end Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2, and that is not enough. The teams app on Mac is just poorly optimised.
Wait for the supposed overhaul of the Teams on Mac that's coming some time next year or use the webapp instead (that's what I do and then just put it into Large Preview mode where I can see all my colleagues). Or suffer the poor performance on Mac. Or switch to Windows...
