New Teams - Video freezing
tfurlong YOU DA MAN for finding the root cause of this!
So for everyone including non-Dell people, here is the gist of how it works, and the "right way" to fix it (not disabling anything). I'm writing this for "every person" and not just techies, so forgive the verboseness.
Go to "C:\ProgramData\A-Volute". You will see some folders like this (ASUS shown, just follow the concept and you should be able to fix it for any brand of MB or computer that uses Nahimic).
If there are multiple folders like mine has, find the one that has a ...\Modules\ScheduledModules\Configurator folder already existing in it, and there should be a BlackApps.dat file in that folder. This is Nahimic's exclusions file.
Run Notepad as administrator (find notepad in the start menu, right-click it, then run as admin). In Notepad, go to "open file", then navigate to the BlackApps.dat file you found in the last step.
Insert at the bottom of the file (there will be a whole slew of exclusions already in the file, just add these lines at the bottom):
ms-teams.exe
msedgewebview2.exe
Exit and save the file. Restart the Nahimic service and restart Teams Reboot, and it should work. People have reported other dependencies that they needed to restart besides Teams and Nahimic, so just make it easy on yourself and reboot.
Thanks so much to all 3 of you for your contributions in this thread. Much appreciated.
- PaulvB2412Dec 07, 2023Copper ContributorSo we seem to have the same issue, but sadly these are on surface pro 7 +. They do not have anything related to the 2(or more) given folders. We also do not have the blackapps file anywhere.
I was wondering if there could be another issue ongoing in teams, unrelated to the issue with Nahimic. - Rob_ICP_AZDec 04, 2023Brass Contributor
Microsoft wouldn't be responsible for the fix, but they drive the whole Windows world, and OEMs depend on them for support.... When Microsoft says "you need to fix this", the vendors listen, and you KNOW if they know about this problem, they are already pumping the OEMs and / or A-Volute to do something about breaking their product and screwing up their rollout.
- John TwohigDec 04, 2023Iron ContributorI don't know if there is much that Microsoft can actually do if people install software that causes things to break. I think that the responsibility lies with companies like Asus, MSI, and Dell who install software to make their products "better". They should ensure that, when they use third party software, it is designed better than the A-Volute product. However, I would assume that by now A-Volute is aware and will include it in their exclusion list in future updates. They obviously know their product breaks hundreds of other products since they already have hundreds of exclusions already.
- keffordtDec 04, 2023Brass ContributorYou're welcome. If it wasn't for finding this thread in the first case I'd never have got to finding out how to solve it.
I've updated the open ticket I have with Microsoft regarding this black screen issue and pointed them to review this thread. Obviously, whilst it's not their fault I have urged that they work with the Nahimic team to resolve this given how many thousands of people it must be creating problems for. Can't say I've much hope of that happening though... - Rob_ICP_AZDec 01, 2023Brass ContributorCan you elaborate on the screen refresh issues after applying the fix?

Has anyone noticed screen refresh issues after making the proposed changes above to Blackapps.dat and restarting the service while New Teams is running?
The issues did not exist before making the changes (with the freezing issues) and I noticed they immediately resolve when closing New Teams.
- bugoutfrDec 01, 2023Copper ContributorAdding teams to the Blackapps.dat file worked for me too.
Thank you tfurlong and Rob_ICP_AZ for your help fixing the issue. - KissMyArsenalDec 01, 2023Copper ContributorBlackapps.dat fix appears to have worked for me too, so thank you! I will report back if things start messing up again.
