Office 365 Education Subscription (A3 to A1)

Hi,

If my school is subscribing to Office 365 Education A3, and then next year we want to stop/discontinue the subscription, what will happen to our accounts ? Will it be downgraded to A1 (this one is free right), or do we have to manually assign A1 license to all our users.
