Disparity in Office 365 home experience

Hello,

I don't know why but I've a different set of homepage features depending on which O365 tenant I connect to:

If I connect to the tenant of my company (set as First Release tenant) I have the following homepage layout, so without search box:

On the other hand if I connect to a trial tenant I just created, I have a different layout (with a search box):

Moreover we used to have access to a FastTrack sandbox and we got the same homepage as the trial tenant except we also had the possibility to Resize, Rearrange, Pin App Launcher tiles which is a feature I don't have on my company tenant or the trial tenant.

Can someone please explain me why those disparities knowing that each tenant is configured as First Release tenant?

Thank you very much,

Ben

I created a Service Request from the Admin Center in order to get helped.

The MS Support figured out quite rapidly that the disparity on Planner was due to Exchange Online not being setup on our tenant.

For the O365 home disparity I was routed to another team, then another team etc... To finally end-up with a misunderstanding so the support pretended that this was a feature for global admins only... (I'm no global admin on my coprorate tenant, but I was on my test tenant..)

So at the moment I was ready to believe them but then I made a quick test by creating a user on my test tenant with a basic user role.

And turns out I had the search box and the ability to move tiles around on my app launcher.

So both issues (and probably others we are facing day-to-day) are due to Exchange Online not being setup which I had to figure out myself despite having opened multiple service requests at MS.

Overall very good experience with the Planner support team. But really frustrating one with the other teams...

There is definitely room for improvement over there Microsoft...

First step being to get the support staff to know the products they support rather than eagerly try to have the customer close the ticket by any means.

    Ben,

  • Strange, second screenshot should be the right one for both tenants. I can tell you that in my corporate tenant (First Release configured there) I'm seeing the App Launcher is behaving quite weirdly. cc Anne Michels

      Thanks for the feedback,

I'm eager to have feedback from others, it is especially critical these days since I'm literally spamming the "Create Site" button every hours to check whether Communication sites are available.

That disparity could mean that we are not really in "First Release" mode though the Admin Center says so... That would make my hourly spamming vain.. :)

      Best regards,

My view  is also the second screen shot with the search box.

The issues with not having the search box are a little strange.

On the first release/communicatiosn site side of things...one thing to note, if your tenants are set to first release, you can probably lay off the refresh button for now as they haven't quite rolled our to tenants in first release.  It's only for tenants that are set to first release for select users.  I beleive the rollout to tenants set to first release is set to start next week.  See this tweet from Dan Holme on July 5 - https://twitter.com/danholme/status/882693340629680128
