Files Becoming Corrupted

Copper Contributor

I have an intricate Excel file (macros, linked pictures) that I use regularly and create various offspring as needed. Of late, I would work in the file, save it and then not be able to open it again - getting a message that the file was corrupt (repair option didn't work, crashed the file).

For a time, this was only happening on my desktop. I could use/reopen similar files on my laptop. But now I'm getting the same effect on my laptop. A file that was seemingly fine yesterday now won't open and appears corrupt.

What can be causing that and is there any way to rescue the files and prevent this in the future?

You can try the following beforehand

Repair a corrupted workbook

If this not helps…

Install the latest update

Repair Office programs

Start Office applications in safe mode

Identify possible problems with the add-in

Check if the file was created by a third party

Hope I was able to help you with this info.

I recommend inserting the file (without sensitive data) to be able to see where the error could be and how or if it can be corrected.

Hope I was able to help you with this information.
