Windows 365: Ask Microsoft Anything
Event details
Get answers to your questions about Windows 365, the end user experience, the IT admin experience, and how you can manage Cloud PCs using the same workflows and tools you use today with traditional PCs.
On July 14th, we announced Windows 365, a new service that takes the Windows operating system to the Microsoft cloud. Windows 365 streams a full, personalized Windows experience to end users–including their apps, content, and settings–to any device. Unlike traditional virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), it does this by leveraging the same skills and tools you already use to deploy and manage physical PCs, at a predictable per-user, per-month price. Windows 365 delivers a Windows 10 or Windows 11 (when generally available) personalized desktop experience that is fully integrated with Microsoft 365. Now we're offering you a chance to Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA) about this new service!
Submit your questions for our engineering and product experts to answer live--or post your questions early in the Comments below and catch up when it's convenient for you.

- Stefan BeckmannCopper ContributorCan a guest user get a cloud PC? This is not possible with AVD, but maybe with Windows 365 😉
- bdam55Iron Contributor@Stefan: Just an FYI that AVD _just_ opened up that exact scenario recently: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/azure-virtual-desktop-the-desktop-and-app-virtualization-platform-for-the-hybrid-workplace/

Not yet. However, we are actively investigating this scenario.
- Stefan BeckmannCopper ContributorCan I use Intune to install software and define policies in Business? Sure, I need an Intune license for that. But is it possible?
- Christian_Montoya
Microsoft
Yes, you can! If you have MDM auto-enrollment configured and have an active Intune subscription, your "Business" Cloud PCs can be managed in Endpoint Manager just like any other Windows device in your organization. However, certain features (like provisioning, management, troubleshooting, reporting, etc.) are only made available for customers with "Enterprise" Cloud PC licenses.
- Stefan BeckmannCopper ContributorIf I have a VNET in North Switzerland, the cloud PCs are connected there, and now the data center is down. The cloud PC automatically switches to Switzerland West, right? But I don't have a VNET there. So do I have to deploy a VNet in every possible region?
- Christiaan_Brinkhoff
Microsoft
Currently, another on-premises connection is needed to the other data center location to spin up another cloud PC in more regions as failback. We are adding more BCDR options soon into our offering that will make this process more streamlined.

Welcome to the Windows 365 Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA)! This live hour gives you the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to the engineering and product teams building Windows. Introduce yourself by replying to this thread. Post each question in the Comment on this event… box above.
- kavinduaOccasional ReaderI can see we should create a on-premises connection with Active Directory in order to provision Cloud PCs, Is it a Site to Site Connection we are talking here? Or are we installing any agent on on-premises domain controllers? Could you please explain how this works?
- Christian_Montoya
Microsoft
Thanks for the question! The on-premises network connection requires an Azure virtual network that has line-of-sight to your domain controller so that provisioned Cloud PCs can complete the domain join to your Active Directory, and then complete Hybrid Azure AD join so the device records are synchronized to Azure AD.
To do this, typically we see customers do either a site-to-site connection (as you mentioned) or through an Azure ExpressRoute (which is through dedicated bandwidth).
- RichSeversonCopper ContributorWill the Linux AVD Client be able to connect to W365 as well as AVD?
- Scott Manchester
Microsoft
Yes, we will support the native Linux client with Windows 365 when it is available. We have native clients for Windows, iOS, Android, Mac, and HTML5 available today.
- AnthonyC100Copper ContributorIs hybrid management supported (EMP/SCCM)? Can I use another security stack and not use ATP/Defender?
- Saud Al-Mishari
Microsoft
Hi Anthony, Yes - we support co-management within Microsoft Endpoint Manager between Intune and SCCM. You can see my reply to Bryan for more details: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-events/windows-365-ask-microsoft-anything/ec-p/2572406/highlight/true#M555. On security stack, yes - you're welcome to "bring your own" security stack and we have had preview customers do that. That said, we have worked closely with the Microsoft Defender team to produce optimized configurations for Windows 365. Regards, Saud
- Leandro ScarduaCopper ContributorGood Morning WIndows Team, Quick question, my question will be related to Window365. Can we enable option for nested virtualization on the VDI running on Windows365?
- Scott Manchester
Microsoft
Though some of the virtual machines may support nested virtualization, it is not a supported scenario with Windows 365. We will have a variety of SKUs at different sizes and price points.
- Rhys WilliamsIron ContributorWill there be a supported provision where a device is kiosk'd into Windows 365? Having the ability to purchase a relatively low-spec device and force the user into a Windows 365 session would be a good solution. I personally like the idea of a device being enrolled into Autopilot and the second a user takes it out of the box and logs in, they are put straight into their Windows 365 session instead of local windows.
- Christian_Montoya
Microsoft
Thanks for the scenario suggestion, and I'd love to understand it a bit more.
In this scenario, would you also plan on having the Autopilot managed by the organization? If so, what would be the deciding factors between sending them to a Windows 365 experience versus working locally from that device?
- Rhys WilliamsIron ContributorHi Christian, Autopilot would be the driving factor in ensuring the device is locked into the Windows 365 session out of the box. We have begun a large scale project of giving every single one of our students their own device in the school, all currently build with Autopilot but the devices are relatively expensive to be able to last their school life. If the devices could be lower spec, would lower the cost and then allow us to run all of their sessions using Windows 365. This also gives us the opportunity to give students studying a more IT focused course, like 3D modelling, the ability to have a GPU-focused SKU and improve their experience overall, without them having to have a more high-spec device. The deciding factor for me is mainly the device the user is going to be using. The ability to have effectively a spec which is interchangeable by the Windows 365 SKU without changing the physical hardware itself is a very positive advantage.
- JochenB007Brass ContributorCan we use MSIX or MSIX AppAttach with Windows 365 like in AVD?
- Saud Al-Mishari
Microsoft
Hi! Windows 365 Enterprise integrates with Microsoft Endpoint Manager (MEM) and MEM supports deployment of MSIX apps. You can leverage the same MSIX between your physical and Cloud PCs. We don't have support for MSIX AppAttach as we're focused on personal Cloud PCs with our initial release.
