Event details
Join us for two special events where our Planner product team shares what is coming to the new Microsoft Planner.
In our Meet the Makers virtual event on April 3rd, leaders from the Planner product team will talk about the latest on the future of task and work management for Microsoft 365. They will explain how the new Microsoft Planner brings together the simplicity of Microsoft To Do, the collaboration of Microsoft Planner, the power of Microsoft Project for the web - with the intelligence of Microsoft Copilot - into a simple, familiar experience.
Our experts will showcase some of the key new capabilities and improvements of the new experience, including demonstrations on how to leverage Copilot in Planner to create plans, tasks, and goals and get Copilot to answer questions on progress, priorities, workload and more.
On April 4, we will host a special Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA). During the AMA session members of the Planner product team will answer questions directly from the community. This is a great opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have from the recent Meet the Makers event.

- CSanzoneCopper ContributorIf I create a plan with a Premium license, can I assign tasks to users who do not have premium licenses? Assuming that the answer to that question is yes, can those users who do not have premium licenses, interact with the task on their own: add comments, mark the task as complete, etc.? I'm trying to better understand if/ how users with different licenses can collaborate.

Hi Conner! Great question - yes, users who don't have premium licenses can be assigned tasks and use the same functionality in premium plans as they have available in basic plans. This includes the ability to add comments and mark the task complete - feel free to see our service description for more info: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/project-online-service-description/project-web-service-description. Thanks!

The New Planner has great features to improve efficiency. Our organization relies on Azure DevOps as a key tool to handle projects, work items, value reporting etc. How does this affect the DevOps working? situations where the user has to decide between Azure DevOps and New Planner, since both offer goals, sprint planning, retrospective, capacity allocation, task management, and dependencies. Is there an integration that can sync the tasks/work items created in Azure DevOps and show them in Planner My Task and My Day, and vice versa ? Additionally, the new Planner support process like Agile, CMMI, Scrum, Basic, and custom inherited process can be created ?
- Rosewhen455Copper ContributorWill there be a plan to upgrade the current limit of 25 labels to 45 labels and the feature to re-order the labels in the drop down?
- johnlaguardiaCopper ContributorWhat are your plans for releasing portfolio management capabilities such as programs and portfolio grouping functionality for project records? Also, will there be a set of PowerBI reports/templates in the future to report on things like projects, programs, portfolios, roadmaps, and resource availability?
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeeThe portfolio feature is already on the public Roadmap John, with a target of being in preview in June and released in September. I'm not aware of any plans to update the current Power BI packs we have available, but it certainly makes sense that we do.
- astephens1855Copper ContributorIs it possible to create a plan and build it out and THEN add it to a group? I skipped the "add to group" option when creating a new Premium plan, and now can see no way to retrospectively do this. PMs in our organisation typically want the opportunity to build out the plan first before sharing with team members, rather than having people critique a rough WIP.
- David_HopkinsFormer EmployeeYes, you can do this via the 'View and add members'/'Share' button in the top right corner of the plan. You should have the option to add the plan to an existing group or create a new group for the plan (if you have appropriate permissions).

I'm interested how someone can design a Planner tool with comments in an Exchange mailbox? If someone deletes the mails, all comments are gone, finished.
After all these years, I still don't understand how someone can design such a solution in a developer perspective.I'm also interested if someone from the top management really use Planner in a real-world scenario? Important, not their assistants on behalf of them!
If so, they should see all these unusable features like commenting, missing email notifications, missing mentions, bad user management, and more. The top management should just read the Planner feedback forum, then they know the top missing features. None of them are fixed with "the new Planner". And no, Copilot is not on the list of missing features.
- Hughes818Iron ContributorIt's a bit disappointing not to see any Microsoft replies yet to the questions posted in this AMA.

How do I set (or check) email notifications in the new Planner? These all seem to be set up correctly, but team members aren't receiving notifications when tasks are assigned to them.
Also a Premium plan I've created in the new Planner (within Teams) doesn't appear at all in my web version of Planner for some reason (even as a basic view). I'm aware the new Planner release is available in Teams only for now, but I thought a cut down version of plans would still be accessible in the web version?
- scott_1092Occasional ReaderVery hopeful for this new Planner! Big question though - will I be able to easily assign tasks to timeslots within my Outlook calendar?

Does any part of the new Planner features allow for you to set/change the colors that tasks appear to be in the Schedule View? Currently all tasks are just grey, unless they are expired or completed. This makes everything run together and it's very difficult to tell them apart at a glance. My team wants to use the schedule view but it's not particularly useful. I would like to be able to say "Anything in Bucket A shows up on the schedule as Yellow", for example. Even manually assigning schedule view colors one task a time, similar to how you can set tags, would be fine. Additionally, it would be nice if you could see the icon of who the task is assigned to on the schedule view, and also to have the tasks be able to show the full title text without getting cut off. These seem like very basic options that anyone would want and other task programs are able to do.
