Event details
Join us for two special events where our Planner product team shares what is coming to the new Microsoft Planner.
In our Meet the Makers virtual event on April 3rd, leaders from the Planner product team will talk about the latest on the future of task and work management for Microsoft 365. They will explain how the new Microsoft Planner brings together the simplicity of Microsoft To Do, the collaboration of Microsoft Planner, the power of Microsoft Project for the web - with the intelligence of Microsoft Copilot - into a simple, familiar experience.
Our experts will showcase some of the key new capabilities and improvements of the new experience, including demonstrations on how to leverage Copilot in Planner to create plans, tasks, and goals and get Copilot to answer questions on progress, priorities, workload and more.
On April 4, we will host a special Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA). During the AMA session members of the Planner product team will answer questions directly from the community. This is a great opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have from the recent Meet the Makers event.

- Inger_ChristensenBrass ContributorWho needs access to Viva Goal in order to set goals and create reporting?
- Inger_ChristensenBrass ContributorTo be clear on cost, can you please clarify whether all project members will need Premium Planner or just the project manager, i.e. can a project member work on the tasks in Basic Planner while the Project Manager works in Premium Planner?
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeeFor basic plans no additional licenses are required beyond the M365 ones - for premium plans then Planner Plan 1 at least would be needed for the PM, but team members could still interact with no premium license - if they weren't acting on the premium features (setting additional field values would be an example).
- astephens1855Copper ContributorWhere we want to use subtasks beneath 'outline items' to group work under workstreams or phases, as we have done traditionally in MS Project, is it possible to auto-create a bucket for each 'outline item' and list the tasks beneath that in board view?

Hi, 4 questions:
1: Will 'new' Planner / Planner premium support a non-default environment? If not when can we expect to see this support? Microsoft advice is to use environments to isolate data for various groups.
2: Its critical to have some form of data protection to avoid data loss if people accidently delete tasks or plans. At the moment this does not exist which is a risk for many organisations. Is this on your roadmap?
3: New Planner & New Planner premium sit on different architectures, are there any plans to merge these so that everything is available in the Dataverse?
4: The last change on the Project Accelerator GitHub repo was 3 years ago, will there be any future development in this area, if not what other alternatives are available for people to extend Planner Premium?

We don't have support for non-Default environment projects as part of our initial launch. We're working on bringing support for them in the new Planner app for Team
- I think you're asking about something like a "recycle bins" feature for this. Let me know if I'm mistaken. We don't currently have that on our roadmap.
- Right now, we're focusing on delivering a converged end-user experience for users of our Planner clients. We will also simplify the experience for developers and admins with a converged platform. We'll share more about plans for the converged platform when we've finalized our plans.
- What kinds of scenarios are you looking to have supported in the Accelerator? We continue to support ongoing investments into the Power Platform and are open to suggestions for additional capabilities to highlight in the Accelerator
- AnonymousThanks, do you have a timeline (weeks, months, years) on non-default support? Yes, recycle bin, at the moment its a huge risk for organisations and seems to have been a constant ask for Planner/Project for the Web to ensure people can use the product without that constant worry of losing critical data. Seems a large gap in the product. I understand that current Planner data does not exist in the Dataverse?
- AlexJacquetCopper ContributorHi, What is going to happen to Project Online? Is Planner (on the web) going to replace Project Online? And so, would you be able to connect a Microsoft Project (mpp) file to Planner?
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeeRecycling an answer from Laura which hopefully answers your question Alexandra - I'm not sure exactly which Project version you are referring to but here is a link to our FAQs: https://aka.ms/newplannerfaq and answers to some of your questions:With the rebranding of Project for the web to Planner, will Project be retired? No, Project is not being retired. • Project for the web capabilities are becoming part of the new Planner. • Project desktop, Project Online, and Project Server will continue to be available and supported for both existing and new customers. I am a current Project Online customer. What does this mean for me? Current customers can continue to use Project Online. There is currently no end of service date for Project Online You can also import mpp files as premium plans, but not all data will come across. It doesn't connect in the same way as Project connects and saves to Project Online today.

1. I tried the Sprint template but where do you add more sprints and the sprint interval? I feel stupid not finding it 🙂
2. When creating a Premium Plan I cant add it to a Teams channel via the Planner Tab. Is this a bug or in the backlog?
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeeTo edit sprints you'd need to be in the context of the project, your screenshot just shows a task. Open the plan from My Plans, go to the board view and group by sprints. For the issue adding a plan as a tab I'd suggest opening s support ticket. It isn't obvious from the screenshot and description what isn't working for you.
- astephens1855Copper ContributorIs it possible to change the circle icon associated with a plan to an image, or even to change the initials/letters used? If a project is renamed from the initial draft, the two initials from the original name remain - it doesn't look like there's any way to amend this.
- SholomGCopper Contributor"Feature Suggestion: I propose integrating a categorization feature into the My Plans page. This enhancement would empower users to create custom categories, streamlining the organization of their plans according to specific contexts or themes. By grouping plans under relevant categories, users could efficiently navigate their tasks, saving time and enhancing productivity. I believe this addition would significantly enhance the user experience and elevate the utility of the My Plans page. Thank you for considering this suggestion."
- astephens1855Copper ContributorIn the 'Meet the Makers' video I can see 'My Portfolios' as an option on the left, below 'My Plans, however in Public Preview I can't see this option despite having multiple plans?
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeePortfolios is a feature that we have on the public roadmap Amy, due to be in preview by June and releasing in September - if all goes to plan.
- Sebastian_LarssonCopper ContributorWhat is the plan for portfolio and resource management capabilities for Planner ?
- AlexJacquetCopper ContributorFollow-up question on that, Do you expect the resource managers to use Planner to "validate" resources assigned to projects? I'd love to know more on this feature.

How do you change/customize the "Instructions from your admin" window when requesting premium functionality? It says: Please contact your IT department to request a Power BI Pro License.
- Ashna_Patel
Microsoft
Hello AndyBa, thank you for your question! Unfortunately, a product-specific customized request process does not exist today. When you customize the request process for one product -- presumably Power BI licenses in this scenario -- it applies to all products. This is why users are seeing the Power BI messaging in the Project license request process. I would advise using editing your current process to send users instructions that can be applicable to all products.
