Event details
Join us for two special events where our Planner product team shares what is coming to the new Microsoft Planner.
In our Meet the Makers virtual event on April 3rd, leaders from the Planner product team will talk about the latest on the future of task and work management for Microsoft 365. They will explain how the new Microsoft Planner brings together the simplicity of Microsoft To Do, the collaboration of Microsoft Planner, the power of Microsoft Project for the web - with the intelligence of Microsoft Copilot - into a simple, familiar experience.
Our experts will showcase some of the key new capabilities and improvements of the new experience, including demonstrations on how to leverage Copilot in Planner to create plans, tasks, and goals and get Copilot to answer questions on progress, priorities, workload and more.
On April 4, we will host a special Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA). During the AMA session members of the Planner product team will answer questions directly from the community. This is a great opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have from the recent Meet the Makers event.

- Erik van HurckCopper ContributorDid I see it correctly that the Project Plan 5 license is gone in the new Planner? Will the Plan 3 provide all Copilot and enterprise features?
- I saw yesterday that Project Plan 3 includes Copilot in the features. They had a Platform category also as part of Project Plan 3. Wondering if that covers the enterprise features.
- AlexJacquetCopper Contributor+1 to get a response on that one too 🙂 Portfolio is not in the slide anymore which was under Plan 5. Is it descoped, or going to be under Plan 3 in the future?
- NathanBlackBrass ContributorMy team uses Project for the web and has built API integrations making use of the functionality available at https://{orgName}.crm.dynamics.com/api/data/v9.0. Will any of this API integration functionality change as a result of the merging of Project and Planner later this year? Will the architecture of API integrations continue to be based on Dynamics and Common Data Service/Dataverse?
- AlexanderLahuerta
Microsoft
We are continuing to support APIs and the extensibility options available via Dataverse. We are in the process of evaluating options for converging the API and backend storage. Dataverse is one of the options on the table for a long-term solution. Will ensure our future API and storage solutions will support the Dataverse extensibility model. - sthoms2000Brass ContributorI have similar concerns, syncing Project for Web tasks and checklist, dates and budget to another ERP via API. Will stuff change?
- cszamirBrass ContributorIs the new planner is going to have permission levels (read vs read+write) and can project managers restrict access so that team members who are assigned a task cannot edit/delete other tasks from the project plan?
- AlexanderLahuerta
Microsoft
No, we do not have a way for project managers to restrict permissions. We support the same permission model as exists today in Project for the web and Planner web.
- rmageeCopper ContributorWill the new Planner update be compatible with both Mac and PC desktop versions of Teams? About half of our Teams members work from PC and the other half work from a Mac. Thanks!
- basgettiCopper ContributorWill the new Planner have more triggers that we can use in Power Automate? I'd love to be able to create flows that use the tags field or trigger off what bucket I put the task in to.
- AlexanderLahuerta
Microsoft
We haven't changed the current Power Automate connector as part of the new Planner. We're focusing on delivering the converged user experience in the Teams app, and then shifting to the tools we give customers for customization and extensibility.
- myanceyBrass ContributorCurrently in Planner I may be assigned to a task, but I will not get email notifications of people's comments until I also make a comment. Will that be fixed?
- Stephanie88Copper ContributorIn "old" planner, this was an issue and I'm dismayed to hear that basic functions like this are not being addressed. The comment should go not just to the team mailbox (which does not work because all members don't care about all tasks and further, they don't know the team mailbox exists - who wants more email?) but to any assignee. As a PM, the only ways I have to fix this are: 1. Ask each assignee by way of an admin note in EVERY task to acknowledge the task...this gets them added to notifications when any subsequent comments is added (problem is not everyone acknowledges their tasks) 2. Reply to my own initial comment notification, adding the assignee to the thread...this is redundant.
- LaurieHeer_D365TeamsBrass Contributor1) I've been successfully viewing multiple premium projects and projects that are on Project Online using Microsoft's PowerBI report packs. Thanks for that - the reports are fantastic! My understanding is that Planner stores data differently and those plans are not available to PowerBI. Will all plans and projects be available to PowerBI at some point? 2) I'm eagerly waiting for the release of baseline functionality to premium plans. In some ways Planner is more functional because it has a task level Due Date field and premium P4W plans do not. My understanding is that baselines will be released in April for project level variance analysis. Does that mean that we still won't be able to track task level variance??
- lexgee02Brass ContributorWIll the NEW Planner have the ability to share plans without creating O365 groups? This would be a game changer for adoption so multiple colleagues can collaborate on a plan without giving someone access to an entire Team or having to create a new group that won't be used long-term. Also will there be an option to add a guest to a plan, giving them access only to that plan so they can complete any assigned tasks associated with the plan?
- sthoms2000Brass ContributorWe use Teams Private Teams Channels to collaborate and share Project Plans with clients. Currently you can only post Project Plans to the General channel of a Team. Will Planner Premium or the newer versions of project for web fix this issue?
- mherremaIron ContributorWill users who have an M365 Copilot license have access to Copilot in Planner? Or do they still need a Project Plan 3 license?
- mherremaIron ContributorIn the meet the makers video you mentioned not wanting users to be confused with licenses. Has Microsoft considered just... not making this a thing? The only way to make licensing not confusing within an app that is as collaborative as Planner is to not have tiered licensing. We have heard from tons of our community members who are questioning what they get for what license, and it feels like a huge friction point.
