How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

- aliofageCopper ContributorWe are Windows users Microsoft ! not Mac OS. We don't like Mac styles. That's why we are here. Are you aware of this? Do you realize what innovation you bring to whom?

Even Mac OS introduced stage manager which is similar to windows 10 task bar with no combine.
why windows took away such very productive option. Buying 3rd party tool is not an option at work where we badly need that feature. - Jim_T1405Iron ContributorI would never have upgraded to windows 11 had I known about the lack of the Never Combine Taskbar Buttons option. Fortunately, I've only upgraded one machine. I will never do any of the others. This is a disaster for me.
- Jim_T1405Iron ContributorAnd in the techradar article, it mentions never combine as a "feature"! Feature??? No. Never combine was NORMAL. The combine OPTION was a FEATURE.
Put it back the way it was. FIX IT!
- Paul_SuttonBrass ContributorNot sure how much weight to put on this but there is hope!

Hi Paul_Sutton

Unfortunately - this is just a dream and it has nothing to do with reality!

Me too!
The lack of this option is my biggest complaint with Windows11; it is so unproductive having multiple open documents buried under a single task icon when there is so much free real-estate to just show them.
- DarkusasBrass ContributorMicrosoft decision-makers seem to have never used Windows 11 themselves. Or maybe they only use it for email. If you work intensively, with ten or more different programs, and in order to switch efficiently, you have to figure out where the right window is every time, it becomes a pain in the **bleep**!
I think everyone who works intensively has at least 4K and a 32" or larger monitor(-s) so there is plenty of space for each button.
So please, if you are not working yourself, please at least let others work!! Please bring back "Never combine" option! - Heba_HCopper Contributor
Please bring back the feature to "never combine" apps windows. I wish I've not updated my windows because of this issue. It's not possible to multitask with this apps grouping forced.
- NickP2020Iron ContributorIf I was your head of engineering and I had to use Windows 11, I would make you fix this instantly. I would have an army of angry engineers at my side ready to fix it. I can't believe anyone who is using Windows to develop more Windows would ignore this issue for long.
Windows versions I have skipped because they had bad UI design choices:
Windows ME
Windows Vista
Windows 8
Windows 11 (for now!)
As a decision maker for my own engineering org, I can tell you that you won't get ~50 users of Windows 11 until you sort it out and I'll be actively campaigning our global techops division to do the same.
If you are reading down this far, try to help out by liking other posts in this thread, maybe we can elevate this into back into MS's view!- Jim_T1405Iron ContributorYour last point is extremely important. We need more "likes" in this thread. We need to get this elevated.

NickP2020 I personally liked at least one aspect of Windows Vista - namely, the Sidebar. An always discreet desktop area with nice gadgets. Along with all the other QoL features like "never combine", this needs to make a comeback as well. Widescreen is the norm now, and how many of us are really using all the horizontal space unless we've documents side-by-side? Microsoft seems obsessed with copying the worst aspects of their competitors: Google's poor UI design and disregard for user privacy, Apple's lack of customization and straightforward file management, and so on.

Please readd the "Never combine" option, having to make 2 clicks every time , plus having to search the right window is very unproductive. With the "never combine" you could mentally remember the position of the window you want to use and click directly on it. The current way in Windows 11 is less productive.

Hi ,NickP2020
"If you are reading down this far, try to help out by liking other posts in this thread, maybe we can elevate this into back into MS's view! "
Of course, this thread is a top spot – it's visible, but currently Insider versions don't have this feature – so Microsoft isn't working to improve it!
Windows10 - will be supported until October 2025 -.>new computers have only Windows11 - I think Windows12 can fix it, I hope so!
- Soham11Brass ContributorDear Microsoft people,
You do not have to be MacOs. We like you as you are.
Please bring back "Never combine" option. Were your designers not using Windows before? Thank you. - Dave_KyndrylBrass ContributorThis is a joke, MS need to stop letting children design their UI and understand that most of us have to use Windows for work and multitask at speed or face losing our jobs. Every new version of Windows gets progressively more like a table OS/UI I’d give to a 5-year-old.
- Jim_T1405Iron ContributorThis is yet another good rant and I stand with all these rants. But one of the major points I'd like to keep making is that we USED TO HAVE THIS FUNCTIONALITY in windows 10 and you TOOK IT AWAY in windows 11. What in the world would let anyone in marketing think that this is acceptable?? Don't take stuff away. Any user acceptance testing at all would have shown this was a SHOW STOPPER. Give it back!

Hi , Dave_Kyndryl
"and understand that most of us have to use Windows for work and multitask at speed or face losing our jobs. "
Yes, you brought up an important topic, but currently it is artificial intelligence - it can lead to job loss - it is impossible to predict how much IT will be rebuilt, so we all have a big problem - competition with artificial intelligence is unpredictable - for IT people.
