Windows do not resize when dragged to the sides or top of my screen (Windows 11)

Hello, I am using Windows 11 Home Version 24H2. I am having a problem with the snapping feature in windows and I cannot find a solution anywhere. When I drag a window to the top or side of my screen, it does not automatically resize like it should, making multi-tasking very hard. It acts as if the feature is turned off, as nothing happens when my mouse drags a window to the right side of the screen for example.

My current multi-tasking settings.

It's also worth mentioning that if I make another account on the same PC, the feature works perfectly. I don't want to migrate account just to regain a one feature. If someone could help that would be greatly appreciated. Also feel free to ask me for any more information.

Thank you.

  • Solution:

I had to download the a certain program to fix this issue that you are not allowed to mention here. The program has a settings tab for snapping and it was correctly detecting that it was disabled, unlike the official settings app. All I had to do was uncheck this and the problem was solved.

I have the same problem and the above suggestion does not work. It worked fine in 23H2 in the past.

Right-click on the Start button and select Settings. Go to System and then select Multitasking.

Ensure that the Snap windows option is turned on.

You can also enable options such as "Snap windows by dragging them to the sides or corners of the screen" for more functionality.

    Hello,

I may have some suggestions to solve this problem.

Reset Multi-tasking Settings: Go to Settings > System > Multi-tasking, toggle off "Snap windows," restart the computer, and then toggle it back on.

Check for System Updates: Ensure that Windows is fully updated. Sometimes, specific bugs get patched in newer updates.

Run SFC and Deployment Image Servicing and Management Scans:

      • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
      • Run sfc /scannow to check for corrupted files and repair them.
      • Run Deployment Image Servicing and Management /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to fix Windows image issues.

Check for Third-Party Software Conflicts: Some third-party utilities can interfere with snapping (e.g., custom window managers). Try disabling or uninstalling such tools temporarily

Create a New Profile Temporarily: If the issue persists, consider transferring settings and data to a new account if that's feasible. Alternatively, a full user profile reset (though a bit complex) might also help.

    Best Regards

Thank you for the suggestions and fast reply. I have the first three steps you recommended, including installing the October 24, 2024-KB5045935 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2, and they sadly have not fixed the issue. This is a new PC and I am sure I had this issue before installing many programs so I do not think I it's due to conflicting software either.

Your final suggestion of creating a new profile would be a work-around fix for the issue, but I want to explore every option I can find before the hassle of that one.

      Thanks for the suggestions :)
