Windows 11 Display Settings not Opening
Hi,
I am using Windows 11 on Surface Book 2 13 (1050 Ti). The Display Settings do not open. Everything else seems to work fine. I tried opening Display Settings from the desktop, right click and Display Settings or Settings -> Display. From the desktop, it shows the settings screen with the icon and is stuck there forever. From the Settings, it simply doesn't open the Display Settings page. The systems continues working, and I can close the window. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am not able to change the screen resolution.
Thanks.
I resolved the issue using a clean install. It seems the upgrade process from Windows 10 to Windows 11 did not work as intended and this setting was disabled. The system works fine after the clean install.

- gilmorependleburyCopper ContributorGood day all
I had the same problem and what helped met is I opened CMD (run as administrator)
Type in "net stop spooler" and it enter, once it stopped successfully, I was able to access everything normally.
I believe this is another printer driver and update issue from Microsoft.
Hope this helps - Wari-Copper ContributorI had the same problem, and I solved it using this method:
1. Type cmd in the Windows Search box and select Run as administrator.
2. Paste "sfc /scannow" in the terminal and press Enter.
3. Restart the Computer.- MichaelCloseCopper Contributor
I ended up going and putting my computer back to factory. You're just a couple days too late but it did fix the problem. Thanks for the information hopefully it's useful for someone who has a problem besides me and you. Thank youWari-

MichaelClose i have the same issue. It gets fixed after a restore point to 16-feb-2024 but it breaks again on its own a day later.
Can't open display settings (stuck on cog icon) and my Bluetooth isn't working (can't connect my Dualsense controller or add devices). I tried the beta of windows but it's still not working.
Have you found a fix? 😞

SamuelxShaban I'm having the same issues as you. For the Bluetooth I've tried every possible 'solution' online. The settings app is broken. Upgrade in place didn't work. Hopefully there's a solution soon. So annoying.
- audiophileCopper ContributorI found a soruce of the problem for my case - it was a spoolsv.exe service (for Canon Printer) which caused the settings to hang. I stopped the process and it began to work

I found disabling the onboard graphics in the BIOS and just enabling the Nvidia graphics card fixed it for me.
- FlorisVerstegenCopper ContributorHave the same issue. Sometimes unplugging 2nd monitor helps. An other option that works is killing explorer.exe from the Task Manager and starting it again from the Task Manager. After this the Display Settings open fine again.

nahmed1000 Same problem here. So many problems with Windows 11 . I found an option around it, if you open NVIDIA Control Panel (type it into the search panel) there is an option for "screens" and also for how to set up multiple screens. There you can tell the computer in which order you like the screens to appear. or change settings. Still doesn't solve the problem of the windows screen settings not showing, but at least you can set up the screens this way.

Had the same issue after an upgrade to Win11 on my Asus Zenbook Duo.
I still can't open the display options. However, I found a way to configure my displays.
On my laptop there is an Intel Display setup app. It allowed me to order my displays and did the job. The Nvidia app cannot see all my displays.
So as a temporary solution, this worked.

When I had windows 10 on my Lenovo c930 laptop, my display settings were not a problem. However, after upgrading to windows 11, I can't access my display settings at all. None of the fixes mentioned here and other places work. Microsoft needs to make this a priority since we are presenting these days more that ever.

I completely agree with you!
This is an issue Microsoft should care!
I'm facing the same trouble since I migrated from windows 10 to windows 11 and reinstalling windows 11 is not an option for me because of the amount of time you have to spend to do this!
Hope the technicians will soon find a way to solve it.

I'm having the same problem. I'm hoping that Microsoft will address these issues as soon as possible. I'm continually waiting for an update, expecting that this problem has already been resolved.

Can you tell me the steps of doing each of those please? Not familiar with it.
I feel my pre-installed windows 10 runs faster and smoother than windows 11.
