Why does Windows have so many processes running?
When I open Task Manager, I'm shocked to see so many processes running in the background, even though I haven't opened many programs myself. I don't understand why Windows needs all of these processes active at once, and I'm worried they might be slowing down my computer or wasting resources.

This is normal behavior in Windows; background processes handle system updates, driver services, and scheduled tasks. You can optimize performance by disabling unnecessary items in the Startup tab of Task Manager.

Unlike a simple app, Windows runs dozens of background services (print spooler, update service, audio service, network services, security, etc.). Each one handles a specific job so the system can respond instantly when needed.
Seeing many processes running in Windows 11 can look concerning, but a lot of them are separate system components, services, drivers, or applications working in the background. It would be interesting to discuss which processes are normally expected and how users can identify unusual ones without accidentally disabling something important.
