Taskbar goes dark black intermittently
Pretty sure this is a bug with Windows' MPO or graphical presentation model, but basically:
For the past few months my taskbar has 'randomly' been going dark black, usually with Chrome open. Upon moving the mouse or clicking the taskbar, it immediately reverts.
It's not a monitor and it's not a driver issue. This has also persisted across a fresh format and fresh driver installs.
Turning off "Show shadows under windows" seems like it reduced the frequency, but it still happens even with that disabled.
I've been told that potentially, disabling HAGS might fix it - but that shouldn't be necessary in the first place.
What is going on with this?

I am observing this bug with multiple screens and the crazy thing is that it affects the screen that is marked as "make this my main monitor". The taskbar on the other screens remain readable with high contrast but on the "main monitor" it gets dark and hard to identify anything. If I then click on the taskbar it gets focus and bright as normal - as soon as I switch back to some window it gets dark and unreadable again. It would be more logically the other way around. As a workaround I selected my Laptop display as main monitor that I am hardly using but this bug is a little crazy.
Edited: The problem is solved nowww That was indeed the MPO Bug so I tried this one - MPO Disable Guide: 1) Open the Registry Editor by pressing Win + R, typing regedit, and hitting Enter. 2) Navigate to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers by pasting it into the top address bar. 3) Inside this folder, right-click any empty white space on the right pane, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it exactly "DisableOverlays". 4) Double-click this newly created value, change the Value data from 0 to 1 (keeping the base as Hexadecimal), and click OK. 5) Finally, close the Registry Editor and restart your laptop to permanently resolve the black taskbar bug. (Note: To reverse this later, simply return to this folder, right-click DisableOverlays, and select Delete). it worked for me. goodluck! I'm having the same problem for 6 consecutive days after I reinstalled my window. Is the issue already solved? I've tried anything but not MPO since it's risky do it on my own T-T. But if the only solution is MPO thing, I'd give a try tho. Can u pls tell me how u did ? That would help a lot. I'd really rather not turn off MPO as that serves benefits in Windows in general.
Did you do anything to fix this issue or are you waiting for an Nvidia update? Having the same thing and it's annoying.

MPO is a graphics optimization that lets different layers (like your Chrome window and the taskbar) be composed separately for better performance. But when two hardware-accelerated apps overlap—say, Chrome playing a video and sitting on top of the taskbar—the rendering queue can get tangled. This causes DWM to glitch, temporarily turning the taskbar black until you click or move the mouse to force a redraw.
Since your research led you to MPO, this is a direct way to address it. A blog post discussing a similar "window overlay bug" on Windows 11 25H2 specifically mentions that the issue is caused by an MPO or DWM rendering conflict and provides a registry fix.
