Keyboard key/charcater runaway (endless repeat) -- nearly giving up -- fix it

Since ~6 Months. I tested everything: new keyboard (same brand), updated drivers, etc. nothing works:

Once every other 10-30 minutes, one of the keys runs away. Completely sporadic, completely random. Any key, space key, or characters. Any software, any app, anywhere. In Windows settings, in Word, in browser, just everywhere.

To get a feeling how it bothers, just watchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ...

At some point I thought about a key-logger, but there is not key-logger in wires and devices that get replaced. Further more, USB-ports were checked, Energy mode removed (please remove it by default), or ports switched. Nothing.

Either, this is down to mainboard, or, my guess, down in Windows 11. All of this is happening only since couple of months, not too long ago. My system is massively powerful and engineered with 30 years Windows/IT experience. No mods, no crap, no bad changes. Just the normal 1 million updates.

If anyone has a tipp, it is highly appreciated. The most annoying Windows issue I have witnessed in last years, only saying the truth.

[Another one is the constant interruption of sound output by either mouse clicks, dragging dropping, or else... whatever has been done here in Windows 11, it was not the case in Windows 10 or early Windows 11.]

Kind Regards

  • I'm having this exact issue! I can't find anything on the internet to help me, I thought this was a one of a kind issue thank god it isn't.

For me it's the 3 key, and it actually changed from the 4 key originally. After about 30 minutes it just starts typing for no reason. Nothing in event viewer that could be related to it, no symptoms, nothing. I have to restart my PC for it to go away, and recently I've had to do 2 restarts back to back in order to stop it since it continues on my lock screen, making me unable to log in.

I've done everything I could think of, and anytime someone tries to help all they tell me to do is get another keyboard. So I did. It's still here. It's not a keyboard issue, I've ruled that out. All I've been doing is going through every single driver I could have missed or corrupted and manually re-installing them.

I've also been having another issue that may or may not be tied to it. Every once and a while everything USB connected disconnects momentarilly, my screen (as I am usually gaming when I notice this) lags and becomes choppy, and then after like 3 seconds it all goes back to normal. There is always one thing in event viewer that pops up when this happens. An information thing from BTHUSB with event ID 18, task category none. It says "Windows cannot store Bluetooth authentication codes (link keys) on the local adapter. Bluetooth keyboards might not work in the system BIOS during startup." I'm not sure if they are related but it is possible.

This has been happening since I built my PC a couple months ago, and I installed windows 11 via USB drive my Uncle bought me (new) from best buy.

Truly any tips would be wonderful because I'm at a loss.

I have a user that has the same issue, except it's the dddddddddd key.

the ddddddddddd would be onscreen even without touching any keys on the keyboard.

Generic windows drivers are still from 2006, did the new windows updates break their own drivers?

I even thought that maybe the USB dongle for the wireless mouse was also connected to a

keyboard nearby with the d key stuck, and tried with wired mouse.  Keyboard is wired and tried multiple keyboards.

    Windows 11  24H2  Vostro.

Have tried all accessibility options, uninstalled extra trackball mouse, uninstalled USB devices in device manager.
