KB5046617 - Failed to Install repeatedly
Please help -- I just received a brand-new HP Omnibook Ultra Laptop 14-fd0087nr with Windows 11, 1Tb SSD, 16GB RAM, 2240x1400 res. AMD RYZEN AI processor. It is the latest HP has to offer.
I've had it for about 1 week, and everything is working just fine.
But about 2 or 3 days ago, Windows 11 update keeps failing on this specific update. It just keeps telling me to "try later" and so far, it looks useless.
I am attaching 2 screenshots which I hope can shed some light on what's really going on behind the scenes. I hope someone out there can perhaps find my "problem" to be something they already know more about and what the correct "fix" is.
Would be grateful for any tips, suggestions and guidance. Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance,
RTan

I'm getting very frustrated at the time I've wasted trying to install this security update, following all the advice about running troubleshooters, clearing cached existing update files, running sfc etc. My computer is retrying the update frequently, seriously wasting network bandwidth. Generally I'm seeing error 0x800f0991 but, even with the standalone installer I get a similar late stage failure. This is giving error 0x800f0983 after trying for some time to install the update. From the number of reports online, Microsoft has obviously messed up this one badly and should issue a revised version that will actually work.

I got it to install after trying multiple fixes such as you. The in place repair worked for me. Create an ISO, and install windows. Keep apps and files. Worked for me and haven't had any issues.

Same, but a different error code (0x8007371b). And on a completely fresh Windows 11 installation.
Tried almost everything mentioned here, but to no avail.
Windows update troubleshoot also finds that something is wrong, but unable to solve it.- Deviator1069Copper Contributor
Update,
Just did an in-place upgrade using windows ISO, and the last update was able to install properly.
KB5046740 had the same installation error as KB5046617 in my case.
So apparently, after trying all the recommended fixes unsuccessfully, the only solution was this.

Same issue, downloading via Windows Update and manually, but installation fails with error 0x800f0991; tried suggestions listed above (safe mode, empty folders etc) without success.

i also i have same problem on a AMD RYZEN 7 desktop computer
what i tried:DISMi /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
SFC /SCANNOW
i tried download and manually install package from ms update catalog website
i tried cleanup temporary data by using ms cleaning tool
but nothing solve the problem
initially its installed but after the reboot stuck at 100% with auto-rollback, and error code 0x800f0922
this problem is similar to the previous KB5044384 with same error code,
which i could not install in any way, and to date it does not install - n30huntCopper Contributor
I have exactly the same issue with an ASUS Zenbook s14. It fails on manual install too.

The same for my ASUS Vivobook OLED S16. As the Ryzen AI 9 CPU (in my case HX 370) is mentioned in the initial post and I guess you have a AMD Ryzen in the Zenbook it might be related to this pretty new CPU? I did everything possible with cleanup Windows Update, manual install, etc.
It happend also on the previous update (the current update contains KB5032080 as well).
I will maybe try to perform a in-place Windows 11 update, but not sure if this will solve the issue.

Hi,
today I did the in-place Windows 11 update with keeping all my files and apps and it worked. All updates have been successful.

I ended up doing a "Reset PC" and had to reinstall everything. Didn't take a long as I thought. Need to do that once in a while.

Same issue, stuck in an update loop.
It gets to 37% and then bails.

Same issue. Can't install manually either via stand alone installer.
