How to fix or bypass "This PC Can't run Windows 11" from bootable USB disk

Hi community folks,

I am new to Windows and want to test out Windows 11 on my spare PC before making a real switch to it.   I made a Windows 11 bootable USB and the installation wizard loads up successfully at the beginning. However, the error screen pops up saying This PC Can't Windows 11. And there is no way to proceed with the installation as this PC does not meet the minimum system requirements to install this version of Windows 11.

The Windows 11 ISO is downloaded from Microsoft. And it is the latest version 23H2. My PC specs:

  • Intel i5-7400
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 256 SSD

Is there any way to fix or bypass This PC can't Windows 11 error so we can use Windows 11 on my unsupported PC?

Thanks

If you are receiving the "This PC Can't run Windows 11" error message when trying to install Windows 11 from a bootable USB disk, it means that your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements to run the operating system.

You take these steps to bypass this requirements:

It works for me, I highly recommend!

Brizion2111 Here's a thought, have you considered that Microsoft should have developed the install to tell you what criteria you are lacking for system specifications so troubleshooting steps aren't poking in the dark. Instead it just vaguely says This PC can't run Windows 11 but doesn't say why.

"This PC Can't run Windows 11" error message will show up when Windows 11 identifies a computer that does not meet its basic system specifications. This statement doesn't imply the computer is completely incapable of Windows 11. Yet, the absence of even a single necessary element can prompt this alert and stop the installation of Windows 11. Notably, unsupported CPU in your case as well TPM and secure boot are the primary culprits behind this error. These are security protocols that can be activated either through Windows settings or your BIOS (UEFI) setup.

One of the most effective tricks to fix "This PC can't run Windows 11" is to edit the registry during Windows 11 installation. Open Registry editor and add a new entry (AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU) and set the value to 1.
Keep in mind, modifying your registry comes with risks, as the Windows registry holds essential low-level configurations that could lead to problems if changed improperly. Therefore, it's advisable to back up your registry or establish a restore point prior to proceeding with this approach. This allows you to revert any changes made by mistake.

Lurtoonans Thank you for your informative post. One question I have is where in the registry do you add the new entry?  Thank you

To bypass the "This PC Can't run Windows 11" error when using a bootable USB disk, you can modify the installation files to circumvent the system requirements check. During the installation process, when the error message appears, press Shift + F10 to open a Command Prompt window. Then, enter `regedit` to open the Registry Editor. Navigate to `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup` and create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value named `AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU`. Double click on it and set the value to `1`. Close the Registry Editor and Command Prompt, then proceed with the installation. This tweak should allow you to continue installing Windows 11 on your PC, even if it doesn't meet the official system requirements. Keep in mind that bypassing these requirements may lead to performance or compatibility issues, so it's advisable to use Windows 11 on unsupported hardware cautiously.

To everyone talking about the 7th gen cpu, dont listen to them. I have an i7 8700k , 16gb or ram, 2tb nvme, rtx2080(just saying all those for reference), and still, not eligible for the **bleep** windows 11. Doesnt matter. We got till October 2025 , after that , the only difference is the security updates.

24H2 is more challenging but I managed to install Windows 11 24H2 by following the steps in this tutorial:

    https://www.thenextsweb.com/install-win11-unsupported-pc

It is simple and easy for beginners. Simply import the Windows 11 ISO and check the bypass option. Wait a couple of minutes and you will have a bootable USB to install Windows 11 on unsupported PC. Here is the screenshot:

ElizabethD  really appreciated for sharing such a helpful answer. I spent 5 hours on this matter and tried 3 different approaches and unfortunately, none of them worked. Your suggestion is working like a charm for bypassing Windows 11 system requirements!
