How to boot Windows 11 using Rufus USB?

Techcommunity experts,

I have issues when installing Windows 11 on my personal built PC. And it is fully compatible with Windows 11 system requirements. I tried made two bootable USB drives with Rufus and Windows 11 Media Creation Tool but the screen went black and never move when booting from the USB.

Is there any other tricks I can follow in order to boot Windows 11 using Rufus USB or alternative suggestions to make Windows 11 bootable USB and boot from it?

I tried booting Windows 11 using Rufus USB on my HP laptop but it didn't work. I tested 3 different US drives and the result was the same. Fortunately, I am able to create a bootable Windows 11 USB with another tool and it worked perfectly for installing Windows 11 from USB.

If you're having trouble booting Windows 11 using Rufus USB drive, this is an alternative method and steps you can take using tools like the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool.

    1.Create the Bootable USB Drive:

    • Plug the USB drive into your computer (at least 8 GB).
    • Run the media creation tool and accept the license terms.
    • Select Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) and click Next.
    • Select your preferred language, version, and architecture (64-bit).
    • Select the USB flash drive as the media to use and click Next.

    2. Boot from the USB Drive:

    • Restart the computer.
    • During the boot process press the necessary key to enter the boot menu (usually F2, F10, F12, or Esc).
    • Select your USB drive and press Enter to boot from it.

    Troubleshooting Boot Issues

    1. Secure Boot: If you have problems booting from USB, make sure Secure Boot is disabled in the BIOS settings.
    2. Fast Boot: Disable fast boot in BIOS/UEFI settings as this sometimes prevents USB devices from being recognized at boot.
    3. File system format: Make sure the USB drive is formatted as FAT32 or NTFS for better compatibility.
    4. Check USB ports: If one USB port isn't working, try another port, preferably a USB 2.0 port if your computer has one.

If the screen goes black or the system does not boot Windows 11 using Rufus USB, try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:
    - Make sure the USB drive is set as the first boot device. You can access BIOS/UEFI firmware settings by pressing a specific key during boot (usually F2, F12, Delete, or Esc).
    - Temporarily disable Secure Boot to see if that resolves the issue, as Secure Boot can sometimes interfere with booting from a USB drive.
    - If using Legacy/CSM mode, try switching to UEFI mode.

    2. Use a Different USB Port:
    - Write the USB drive to a different port, preferably a USB 2.0 port if available. Some systems have compatibility issues with USB 3.0 drives during installation.

    3. Check for Corrupt Files:
    - Verify the integrity of the downloaded Windows 11 ISO file. Check the SHA-1 hash against the official value (if available).

    4. Try a Different USB Drive:
    - Sometimes there can be problems with the USB drive itself. If possible, try using a different USB stick to create the boot media.

To boot Windows 11 from Rufus USB, you need to configure the computer's BIOS/UEFI settings to prioritize USB booting.

    1. Plug the newly created Windows 11 bootable USB drive into the target computer.
    2. Click "Start", select "Power", and then "Restart".
    3. As the computer restarts, press the designated key to enter BIOS/UEFI. Common keys include F2, F12, DEL, ESC, or F10. The specific key varies by manufacturer and is often displayed briefly during startup.
    4. Once in BIOS/UEFI, use the arrow keys or mouse (if supported) to navigate to the "Boot" tab or "Boot Order" settings.
    5. Locate the "Boot Priority" or "Boot Order" list. Move the USB drive to the top of the list to prioritize it over other boot devices like the internal hard drive. This will allow the computer booting Windows 11 using Rufus USB.
    6. Save the changes by selecting "Save and Exit" or pressing the designated key (often F10). Confirm any prompts to save changes.

Note: Some modern systems support "Boot Menu" access via a specific key (e.g., F12) during startup, allowing you to select the boot device without changing BIOS settings permanently.
