Where are the settings for external users and anonymous links for SharePoint sites?

When I use a default set up tenant, here are the setting:

Admin Center > Settings > Services and add-ins > Sites

Overwritten by: Admin Centers > SharePoint > Sharing

But then after I created a site, I can view in Admin Centers > SharePoint > New experience > Actives Sites > External Sharing

  • Team Site = New and existing external users
  • Communication Site = Only people in current organization

Where can I decide which will be the External Sharing settings selected when I create a site?

  • It's just how Chris Webb said: the change in the Office 365 Admin center and the SPO Admin Center does not propaggate to the tenant site collections so you need to configure your sharing setting site by site...you can do this manually or automate it by means of PowerShell

  • Click on target site.

    Click Change on External sharing.

Change to New and existing external users

    I hope this helps.

Sorry I should rephrase my question. If 'Allow sharing to authenticated external users and using anonymous access links' is activated in the SharePoint Admin Center, why is it that 'Anyone' for External Sharing doesn't apply to all active sites?

      • It doesn’t by default it’s only the allowed level and applies to all onedrive sites/users. However SharePoint sites must be manually changed to allow the anyone links.
