What is the future of SharePoint Classic Site?

I can't imagine Classic sites going away anytime soon until there's complete feature parity between the two. At this point you can't accomodate simple changes like the banner, or a multi-column layout. Intranet / Modern Workspaces / whatever you want to call them are the bread & butter of SharePoint. I'll be curious to see what the May event holds, but I can't believe that phasing out Classic sites is going to happen anytime soon.
They've mentioned more features will be delivered in modern team site. I hope the May event will provide more clarity and roadmap.
