Video formats supported in SharePoint Online

Hi,

I have uploaded video file of format WMV, MP4, AVI and MPG type in SPO asset library, but when clicking on videos only MP4 file is playing while other formats like AVI, MPG, WMV does not work. Although this article "https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Video-formats-that-work-in-Office-365-Video-dd1af01c-fd8e-4640-b17b-93ee02b9b817" says that SPO supports video file formats: MPG, WMV, AVI...

Can you please tell me the real supported list of video formats in SPO

  • And bear also in mind that the Video formats you mention are supported by Office 365 Video that uses Azure Media Servies while this is not true on an Assets Library

I came across to the same thing. Does anybody know when Microsoft will release a video player plugin? I recently uploaded a video to a library but unfortunately, I am not able to watch that online instead of downloading. Do we have any news on that?

    Thanks

Which is the video format? SPO and ODFB are capable to provide builtin video playing without the need of a video player plugin..of course, SPO and ODFB are not video platforms so user experience when playing a video is not very good and that's the reason why we have Stream in Office 365

I'm not sure why those would not be working, but I do know that the Office Video portal provides a lot of functionality that is not avaialble from a SP Asset Library. Is there a  reason that you are not using the Video portal?
