Typical SharePoint Storage Space - Med-Large scale projects

Hi everyone,

In my current organization, we've taken to limiting the storage space available when creating a SharePoint/Teams site. It's a way to manage our tenancy's storage.

Just curious, from everyone's experience, what is the average amount of storage used for projects or any purpose really when it comes to your SharePoint sites? 100gb, 500gb or 1tb+?

  • I would recommend you to keep it automatic as it's rare that sites even in a large project becomes more than a few GBs.

If you're facing issues with storage, I would recommend you looking into what sites are using up the most space and starting to delete the version history of those files. For example 1gb PowerPoint edited 10 times will take up 10GB storage.

Also have a lifecycle policy around files, sites and teams is recommended.

NicolasKheirallah Thanks, will take this advise on board

Hard to leave storage as default sometimes as that just opens up the possibility of eating up a lot of storage with no controls in place

Lifecycle will def be key 👍
