Title Column and Modern User Experience
I am not sure if I am the only one experiencing this odd behavior or this is by design so would appreciate if someone could shed some light.
I am using a content type in the custom list and decided to hide the default Title column and I notice two issues:
1) If I click Edit button on the toolbar or through menu, it opens a page for the user to edit the item whereas if the title column is visible on the view (All items) it opens a panel on the right hand to edit/view. I personally think opening up a panel is a much better UX.
2) When I do 'Quick Edit' since the title column are hidden it gives an error. Even though the Title column is listed as 'Optional'
Is this is a bug?
It seems that I will be now forced to use Title column which is really bad.
Thanks,
- To me this is by design and the panel for editing the list item will only open if you have in your list a column such as Tittle that is normally used to edit a list item

This is odd because if I add the Title column (in my case Title column is not called Title) to the View and click edit button (not the link of the title column) it opens a panel.
Even if the Title column is empty just by being visible in the 'View' forces it open in the panel. This can't be a correct behavior.
Any thoughts on Quick Edit?
Thanks,
