Sharing links and Direct access - Link settings

Unfortunately, it is still extremely confusing.
Could you please confirm that the link settings (Anyone, People in, People with existing access, People you choose) are not relevant when you choose 'Share' and click the button 'Send'?
It is not explained this way on the official support page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/share-sharepoint-files-or-folders-1fe37332-0f9a-4719-970e-d2578da4941c but from my testing the link settings apply to the button 'Copy link' only.

After digging more on this subject, I found my answer.
In February 2024, Microsoft launched 'Invite people you choose in the Share control in Microsoft 365 apps' MC706173.
New instructions were also published https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sharing-files-folders-and-list-items-e923c4f0-89f5-4cf0-8948-391e31fc0b30
They clearly state that link settings are to be used with 'Copy link'. And that 'Send' (or 'Invite') grants access (direct access).https://ktnnsharepoint.wordpress.com/2024/06/29/understanding-sharing/
