Sharing links and Direct access - Link settings

After digging more on this subject, I found my answer.
In February 2024, Microsoft launched 'Invite people you choose in the Share control in Microsoft 365 apps' MC706173.
New instructions were also published https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sharing-files-folders-and-list-items-e923c4f0-89f5-4cf0-8948-391e31fc0b30
They clearly state that link settings are to be used with 'Copy link'. And that 'Send' (or 'Invite') grants access (direct access).
