Sharepoint sync and check in/out issues
Hi,
I feel like I am being incredibly stupid, but something isn't working.
I've set up a sharepoint hub site with several subsites and document libraries. I've done the permissions for the user groups. I've put in versioning and document ID and I've turned on the check in/out system.
When anyone checks out a document, then tries to open it in the app, it's still read only.
I've turned off limited-access user permission lockdown mode. I've cleared caches.
I just need to be able to have specific users be able to edit master documents and make them write what the changes are. I need other users to be able to use these documents as a template, but not change the body of text (They are filling out test results).
I'm open to anyway of being able to do this, I just want it to be controllable.
Thanks,
Jodie
Hi Jodie,
Using the OneDrive Sync Client for collaboration is a nightmare. Please convince your users to only use SharePoint Online or the MS Teams Desktop App when collaborating.

Hi Jodie,
Using the OneDrive Sync Client for collaboration is a nightmare. Please convince your users to only use SharePoint Online or the MS Teams Desktop App when collaborating.- Paul de JongIron ContributorUsing the web interface is the strategic direction from Microsoft. Educate your users if possible.
Note: using the Teams app will only work for Teams connected sites.- Jodie0510Copper ContributorThanks both.
Educating my users is a very long and slow process :L
I am getting there with getting everyone just using SharePoint online, but one of the technicians is convinced that he never has internet when he's onsite.
I've used Viva Connections to bring in the Site into teams, it's a bit weird around opening documents. Nothing happens when you click on the document link or Open in browser/app. You have to open it as a preview first for it to do anything. I've messed with the API settings, but nothing seems to have changed. I think I'll just keep going with the online one.
Sorry, I'm not fully confident with all this. I was an autocad tech who landed in doing all the systems admin as no one else knew anything about pcs, so your help has been very appreciated!!
- Paul de JongIron Contributor"open it in the app" do you mean the OneDrive for Business client on the user's computer?
If so, that is a known limitation of OneDrive for Business client.- Jodie0510Copper ContributorYeah, I think so. Is there a work around that you know of please?
