SharePoint Sites in Site Collection
Hi
When I create a Site Collection in SPO - I create the site in the managed path /Sites - e.g. "Marketing1' site selecting a SP publishing site template
So I get a "New" site collection - containing 1 site - all good - but how do I Create another site e.g. 'Marketing2' as a classic Team site in that same Site site collection?
Are my only option to create it as a 'Subsite' in the 'Marketing1' site?
- Can't find anything direct it's been talked about at Ignite and they continue to throw hints that best practice is using site collections instead of subsites. Lots more settings etc. you gain from Site collections vs. a subsit.
Anyway, check out these two articles that kind of discuss it and give some pro's and con's to the methods: https://joannecklein.com/2017/11/03/sharepoint-site-collection-advantages/
https://sharepointmaven.com/no-sharepoint-subsites-are-not-evil/
Then you can decide how you wish to approach it. Hope this helps!

To me this sounds like a use case for Hub Sites....You would create "Marketing". And then "Marketing1" and "Marketing2" which are part of the Marketing Hub. They are still separate site collections, but appear to roll up to the same place. Is that what you mean?
- Yup, def. Hub sites are the "new" way of accomplishing subsites but keeping the benefits of using site collections.
- Yes a site collection can only have one parent site. Also you really dont' want to create subsites for this purpose and want to create site collections for both Mark1 and Mark2 as that is guidance that Microsoft has been hearding us for as it pertains to support in the future etc.

Hi Chris
Thank you for your reply
Do you have a link to the MS "recommendation"?
