sharepoint records center drop off library doesn't copy document metadata/properties

Hi:

We setup a records center yesterday and placed a word document (docx file) onto the drop off library.

The word document has core metadata/property set (such as title, subject, category, author etc).

We placed the word file on the drop off.

When we check the file properties, it's blank and the content organizer said it has to be populated for the rule routing to work.

Is there a setting we have to enable to allow the metadata/property to be copied/sync across. Because its an unnecessary work to manually copy the metadata/property.

We tested by creating a document center and when we uploaded the word file to that center, we can see the word metadata/properties.... so this made us think that there is a setting not enabled by default.

Bottom line: if the records center drop off library doesn't copy or use the metadata/properties of the file, its pretty useless as it creates unnecessary work to manually copy the metadata/property everytime a file is uploaded to that folder.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Kenny

That sounds like an issue with Content Types. Are you using them? if not you probably should, they will help you map the document properties to the desired business document types and will provide the foundation for a robust document management system.

yes, we have tested using the standard content type (e.g. document) and have created a custom content type... to no avail
