SharePoint Provider Hosted Add Ins - Azure ACS Retriement

Hi All

As we all know that Azure access control service (ACS) will be soon retiring preciously on Nov 2018. Currently SharePoint provider hosted add ins uses ACS to get access tokens, authorization, etc.,

I would like to ask, if anyone aware of what is the alternative, as per Microsoft, moving forward Azure AD will be replacing ACS, but not sure how SharePoint behave with Azure AD in these scenarios.

Is anyone have information regarding this?

Thanks

Chandra

  • I'm currently working with the ACS and SharePoint teams on this topic. I'll update the thread when I have more info or when they release an official statement.

Hi Trevor, do you have a quick status update for us? We are planning to migrate our solution which are using ACS, but it would be nice to have several options to migrate to.

      Thanks in advance!

      • Nothing concrete, but I wouldn't fret about using ACS. Removing ACS (or replacing it) would be a significant undertaking within the SharePoint product. Given there are so many dependencies in both SharePoint Online and On-Prem for ACS as a service, while behind the scenes things might be moved around, I doubt we'll see a replacement for ACS within the SharePoint product itself for some time.
