SharePoint Online - external sharing
I shared a SPO site with an external user. They received the link and when they tried to login, they received an error message saying "We've sorry but username@company.com can't be found in the abc.SharePoint.com directory. Please try again while we try to automatically fix this for you." Any suggestions?

I have seen this issue in our organization multiple times. Could you try opening the SharePoint site in InPrivate browser.
Even if the external user may not have an MS account, a code should be sent to there email on which the link is shared.

We had a similar issue where we shared a site to their email address, which was not the same as their Office 365 login. Perhaps they use a different format for their O365 login from their email address?

We had a user with the same error but I'm fuzzy on the details.
I believe it was caused by the external email account is not being a Microsoft Account or a work or school account from another Office 365 subscription.
Users can verify their account by:
- Connect to: https://login.live.com
- Enter the email address of the external user and click “Next”
- If they receive an error message stating that the account does not exist, they need to Create one!
