Sharepoint list grid view - lookup column drop-down search function

I have a sharepoint library of issues/records and a sharepoint list of issue codes (100+ rows).

There's a lookup column in the library that references the list. Users will be assigning issue codes to each issue/record in the library's edit in grid view; however, when making the selection from the issue code lookup column, users are presented with a drop-down list of the issue codes without the option to type and search/narrow down the list.

Is there a way to enable a type and search feature for lookup columns when editing records in grid view mode? I haven't tried this with a Choice column, but I prefer not having to keep the list of issue codes as a column's Choice options.

EDIT: I see that the Choice column has the Type to filter option, which is what I'm looking for but for a lookup column. It would also be great if there's a way to make the Type to filter search be a 'contains' instead of a 'begins with' function.
