Sharepoint clears filter when I open a pdf

Hi everyone!

I'm hoping someone might have a fix or a workaround to an issue that started on April 8th 2024. We use sharepoint to store documents online and we haven't had any process changes, but on Monday we were suddenly unable to keep our filters on when looking at a document.

As an example, if I use the column filter to filter a PO# from a set of PDF documents, any documents related to that PO would pull up. Previously we were able to open the pdf and close out back into the group of documents, or open it and side arrow through the group. But now whenever we open a pdf or side arrow onto the next doc, our filter is reset and the view is refreshed upon closing the pdf - which doesn't come in handy when filtering 5 docs out of 200. At the time time the issue came up, there is a new ribbon at the top with a restyled "Edit" and "Share" button. I've explored the ribbon but haven't found any options that would affect the filter. Was there a recent update that happened? Is there some hidden refresh timer that we're not aware of?

  • Alternatively, when the filter is enabled in the document library, you can instead right click on the file to open in app or browser. This way the filtered list remains open.

One of my clients has multiple random users experiencing this same exact issue on their tenant. Hopefully Microsoft can fix this quickly because it is very frustrating for end users and basically impossible to troubleshoot as an admin.

I've encountered an issue in SharePoint where filters are cleared when opening a PDF. This disrupts workflow efficiency, especially when working with specific data subsets.

On a related note, I recommend using an HVAC load calculator for better energy management and planning. This tool can help you determine the heating and cooling requirements for a building, ensuring that your HVAC system is appropriately sized and operates efficiently during heat waves.

Have the same issue, its not all users, however the ones affected see the same behavior in Chrome as Edge...makes me think its something about a chromium version.

I also have this issue together with my workmates. However, we noted that when we filter our sharepoint file via the MS Teams app, the filter stays intact and doesnt reset until we tell it to. Unfortunately, in Teams, the side arrows to go to next document is not found.

    Why Microsoft? Why?

Greenllama We are getting the same behavior in our organization. We haven't found a fix.

We have worked around it, either by right clicking the PDF and opening it in the browser that way. Doing it this way doesn't clear the filter since the document is opened in a new tab.

The other workaround we found is selecting a view, copying the URL of that view and accessing the view through the URL. When doing this, it seems to fix the issue for awhile. In case it starts redoing the same thing, just reuse the link and it'll work for another while.

Pretty annoying workarounds, but that's all we've managed to find so far.
