Shared file not updating
Hi AdamCook1996,
you can use this troubleshooting to try resolve the issue of an Excel file not updating in Teams:
1. Check the file permissions
Make sure that all users have the necessary permissions to edit the Excel file. To do this:
- Open the Excel file in Teams.
- Click the three dots in the top right corner of the file.
- Click Manage access.
- Make sure that all users have the Can edit permission.
2. Clear the Teams cache
Clearing the Teams cache can sometimes resolve issues with file syncing. To do this:
- Close Teams.
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams in the Run dialog box and press Enter.
- Delete all of the files and folders in the Teams folder.
- Restart Teams.
3. Disable co-authoring
If you are still having problems, you can try disabling co-authoring for the Excel file. To do this:
- Open the Excel file in Teams.
- Click the three dots in the top right corner of the file.
- Click More options.
- Click Disable co-authoring.
4. Save the file to OneDrive
If you are still having problems, you can try saving the Excel file to OneDrive. To do this:
- Open the Excel file in Teams.
- Click the File tab.
- Click Save as.
- In the Save as dialog box, select OneDrive.
- Click Save.
Once the file is saved to OneDrive, all users should be able to see the changes that have been made.

We have had these problems as well, consistently and cannot seem to get them fixed for any duration.
This is unacceptable from Microsoft. I don't do any coding any more, but from my simple experience, you just need some good data "hand shaking" to confirm the data got to where it was sent.
If there are any sort of permission issues, that should be communicated when sync was attempted, not let the user think the sync happened only later when the user looks and checks, they find out they have lost tons of data.
The instability of this situation defeats all the benefits (plus some) that the tool promises to provide.

- KennethRascheAug 27, 2024Copper ContributorLeonPavesic , obviously my frustration is pointed at Microsoft (at least hope that obvious).
You obviously are a power user and know the software very well. Everyone should be grateful for this herculean solution you have provided. The issue, in my opinion, is Microsoft should not need these herculean efforts so often.
Thanks,
Ken
