Recommended migration tools to migrate from SP on-premises to SP on-line
I have been working on a commercial migration tool for around one year, where i did many migration from SharePoint on-premises 2013 + File shares to SharePoint online. but recently the tool is showing many inconsistent results and their support team is not helpful. for example last week i did a migration from sharepoint 2013 team site (which contain 70 sub-sites) to sharepoint online classic team site, where the tool only migrated 57 subs-sites without informing us that there are 13 sub-sites been ignored + some items/documents got duplicate versions, also without giving us any warning.
So now i am trying to find another tool which can allow us to do these main tasks:-
1. Migrating sharepoint on-premises sites (mainly enterprise wiki site collections + team site collection), to sharepoint online.
2. Migrate file shares to sharepoint online
3. The tool should be able to migrate the site settings, site columns, content types, workflows, and of course the data. in other words to create a migrated site which is 100% mimic the source site.
4. the ability for the tool to resolve non-existing users and allow for custom user mapping. for example if we have documents or items that have been created by users who no longer exists, to be able to add these usernames inside the migrated sites.
5. of course when migrating documents/items to be able to preserve the metadata and versions for these items + any unique permissions.
6. the ability to migrate term sets.
at this stage i do not want to mention the tool I am currently using which i am unhappy with.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Naveen Karlaok thanks for your valuable reply.
so when it comes to sharepoint seems these2 tools AvePoint & Quest covers all the functions, unlike other tools?
second point. now i have heard about the AvePoint as a very reliable migration tool for sharepoint on-premises to online, and also about Quest...but do you have a matrix about the price? or all tools have relatively similar price?

john john Sharegate isn't as full featured as Avepoint but it's the most cost effective tool. For ex Avepoint Docave also provides effective backup recovery solution along with migration but with Sharegate backups are more manual and experience isn't that great. It all about features you need. The perfect fit will be most expensive.
As far as i remember Docave platform costs about $10,000 per 1 terabyte and Sharegate around $4000.
Thanks

Hi john john. For point 2 migrating file shares to SharePoint Online, check out our file migration tool Files To Go. Files To Go has been used on many successful migrations from small to very large. A Files To Go subscription starts from $195 USD for 1 month.

- ShareGate pretty much does most of not all of that and well. Hopefully that’s not the one you have because O think it’s the best. SharePoint Migration Tool is coming along nicely too but doesn’t really have much for permissions.
- Totally agree, best tool I know for this migration scenario is Sharegate...the other ones you have in the market are Quest and AvePoint. SharePoint Migration Tool is not ready yet for your scenario
