owners can only open files in read only

unfortunately seems this is a restriction inside SharePoint and syncing. See some post on possible enhancements to SharePoint to fix, but nothing for sure. Anyone have any ideas? Right now I have unsynced the team and that means they need to download files to be able to upload them into our ERP for backup. Adds an extra step and time that we really do not have
