Grid edit

So, from what I have seen, SP Online's version of grid view is not really as responsive (as in responding, not screen size) as SP 2010.  I have a heavy user of grid view-style work list.  That list has attachments.  I am trying to figure out a reasonable alternative.  My first thought was a dataverse back on some app or even a grid style app into dataverse or heck even direct use of it (but I don't want to do that).  Any ideas of an alterative that might be able to work?
