Custom Views not working as expected for Document Library

I have a Document Library called "Production Files". Inside this library I want to have my top-level folder view showing only one column and once I enter a folder I want to have a different view showing multiple columns.

To do this I have created two views within Production Files -> Settings (see image below). You are able to create two default views, one for top-level and one for folder. My understanding is that this will show "Top Folder" view on my top level (before I enter my folders) once I ender a folder the view "PBIX Folder" should be the view I see which should show me the columns I have selected as part of this view.

However, this is not what occurs. The "Top Folders" view remains enforced once I enter my folder.

Here's screenshots showing what I want to occur.

Once I enter the folder I want the view to change to PBIX Folder and display the columns.

Here's what is occurring now.

Any ideas?

Regards,

H

HarryNicholls Oh that's a bummer let's check couple of things make sure you have created the folder content type(like I have created named: Project Folder) and used it in your library in the setting something like this should appear:

secondly both of the view should be the default view:

third in your folder view make sure the following settings are checked

finally your document view should have the below settings:

    Hopefully you get your solution

  • HarryNicholls I am afraid that will not happen in SP. Either you can select the top level view or document level view. With clicking the folders unfortunately the view will not change. If I will be in your place I will keep the document level view as default and then at the folder level they will not show anything.

I will think some other ways if we can achieve but now I cant think of any.

      Thanks for your reply, Vikram_Samal.

According to this guide - https://camerondwyer.com/2014/01/06/harness-sharepoint-default-views-at-different-navigation-hierarchy-levels-to-build-more-appealing-solutions/ What I am trying to achieve was possible. Perhaps this is no longer the case?

HarryNicholls Apologies for not clearing I mean to say as you are using SharePoint modern user interface it won't work  but if you will use classic interface you should be able to use.

I have shown below how it does not work in Modern View

Where as it works for Classic View

        I hope this helps
